A Second Chance

Charades

Diana, Nala and Sarafina were having a great time basking in the sun behind Pride Rock. "Oh my goodness," sighed Diana in content. "What could be better than lying on a heated rock, doing nothing." Nala nodded in agreement. "I can't imagine anything more relaxing." All of a sudden the three lionesses were startled by loud and protesting voices.
"I'm telling you it was just an innocent mistake," said a female. "You call jumping on us an innocent mistake?"growled an angry male voice. Diana recognized the male's voice, it was Kovu. She jumped to her feet and ran to where the voices were coming from. Sarafina and Nala followed suit, and soon they came face-to-face with the Lion Guard, Kiara, Kovu, Vitani, and Marisa. "What in the Pride Lands is going on here?"demanded Nala. "We'll tell you what's going on mom," said Kiara furiously. "Kovu, Vitani, Marisa and I were playing by the Eastern border, when all of a sudden a certain lion and cheetah named Kion and Fuli pounced on us." "And pushed me away from Kiara," added Kovu glaring at Kion. "They also pinned Tani and I," finished Marisa. "Mom," protested Kion, I was just trying to protect my sister. I had no idea they were playing." Fuli stepped up from behind Bunga. "That's right your Majesty, she said bowing. Kovu, Vitani and Marisa are merely making a mountain out of a molehill, we were just doing our job that is all." Kovu stared at Kiara, Kiara stared at Vitani and Vitani stared at Marisa.
"Kovu honey, what Fuli and Kion are saying, is that true? asked Diana looking at her  children. Kovu had no answer so instead he tried to get them out of the trouble. "OWW! My heart!"he collapsed on the grass and clenched  his teeth in obvious pain. Kiara realized what he was doing and decided to play along. "Oh Kovu," she cried in distress. "Somebody do something, his heart is aching." Marisa saw the chance and grabbed it at once. "Oh great Kings of the past," she cried out in a pleading manner. "Please have mercy on my brother, he's as innocent as a lamb." Marisa threw herself on the grass and bowed to the group of clouds that settled over the hills. Vitani who was the greatest actress in the family finished the scene with a dramatic chant. "Oh Great King Mufasa, hear me now, please cancel my brother's death warrant. He is too young to die. He has great things in store for him, but how can he prove himself if you take his life? My brother plays an important part in the Circle of Life, and he will bring forward the future generations of the Pride Lands. He and his future queen Kiara will be the future rulers of the Pride Lands and if you take my brother's life, who will be King?" As Vitani continued to speak, Marisa continued to bow to the clouds. Kiara allowed tears to drip down her face and Kovu continued to scream in agony. The spectators watched in both amusement and shock. Bunga, Betsey and Ono were shocked, and the rest were just plained amused. The charade lasted for at least fifteen minutes until finally, Diana was at her wits end. "Kovu, Vitani and Marisa, stop this nonsense and follow me." That was all Kovu wanted to hear. He winked at the girls and they immediately got up. Kion and the rest of his team shook their heads and left. Kiara also got up and quietly left with her mother and grandmother.
