"Is she coming?" I asked, leaning on the sofa seat and grabbed Ria by her waist to put her on my lap.
Dhruv's figure didn't meet mine, and he busied himself with the task of cleaning the apartment.
From past fifteen minutes I had been asking the same thing, curious to know if Sanchi was coming tomorrow in the function. I had told dad to send invitation to her house as well, a personal invitation. He had been confused, curious to know when Sanchi and I had become friends. If stealing her boyfriend could be considered friends territory.
What was I doing? Inviting my fiancé ex-girlfriend in my engagement? Hadn't I decided this would be the best day of my life apart from when my book was released?
Dhruv. You were doing this for Dhruv. You had to see who was this girl he couldn't stop talking about.
"Tell," I insisted.
Halting on his tracks, he whirled. "Don't you hate her? How could you and Kabir send her invitations?"
"But you love her," I grinned, playing with Ria's hair. "Dadda love Sanchi, isn't it?"
"I don't!" He defied, throwing Ria's stuff toy at my head. Glaring at him, I tongued him. "Are you trying to shove your engagement on her face?"
"What?" The playfulness left my face.
"She's Kabir ex-girlfriend and maybe you want to get back of school days. Sanchi is not that girl anymore. She's nice and thoughtful. Alina-"
Pursuing my lips, I placed Ria back on the couch. "Don't tell me Sanchi will be another Isha." Another girl to drive us apart, another girl who would talk rubbish about me and he would believe her over me. "And I didn't know you think like this about me."
Turning his lips down from the edged, he settled down on the floor.
"She's not another Isha. She's good. She thinks she's not but she is. She believes she deserves the worst in the world." He peered at the rug. "I hate when she thinks that and it makes me hate myself on how I could do nothing about it. She's different from Isha. Sanchi is demanding, fierce and cold, but yet, loving. You should see her with Ria. You were right about forgiving her."
"You got your best friend back?" I asked, smiling at his figure.
He loved her and he had no idea how much he loved her. He had no idea how many times I had seen the same look on Kabir's face, the softened features, the gentle voice and the protectiveness.
He shook his head, a small smile teasing the edge of his lips. "I got my bear back. I missed her. I missed her a lot and I don't think I would let her leave me again."
* * *
"Why did you call me?" I asked quickly, shutting the door at my back. "I had to make an excuse to leave the house. Nobody was letting me leave."
Kabir rolled his eyes, passed the latte cup to me. "Your addiction." Smiling, I took a sip and waited for his explanation. "Today is our engagement." We both shared a secretive smile. "One step to my wife. I wanted to gift you something." Shifting, he opened the glove box and took out a box. "I was supposed to give you at night, but I want you to wear it."
Before I could what was it, he opened the box and revealed diamond gold bangles.
I placed the cup in the middle of our seats and brushed my fingers across them. "They're beautiful."
"There is more." Placing the box, he got another box and opened it to reveal broad gold anklets. "I know tonight mom will give you things, but I bought this for you and I want you to wear them."
