"Why isn't he waking up?" Groggy voices interrupted the white light of my head. "He should have woken up by now."
What?
Squeezing the closed eyelids, I shifted on the bed for the restraints that had been there on my wrist and ankles but nothing restricted the entry. Mortified at the lack of chains, I opened my eyes and the white light bashed my eyes.
Something was wrong.
I could feel it in the white dull walls of the hospital room or in the tension brooding on the present person.
Hitakshi.
Blood.
"Where is she?" I mumbled, my voice scraped out. "Where is she?" Quickly, I kicked the blanket out of my legs, planted my feet on the cold tiles but one shove and I was on the bed. "Abeer."
"Save it," He scowled. "I am doing this for my wife." Transmitting his eyes to my younger sister, he nodded to the door. "You cannot leave this room."
"Where is she?" I gritted my teeth, shifted my gaze to the lack of my original clothes, or the sign of her blood from my hands. "I need to see her."
"She is safe, Adi," Abeer mumbled, his eyes held the disappointment of unknown destination. "Mom is with her. You know what? I cannot act like I give a crap. What the hell was that?" He hissed. "Why is that woman beaten black and blue? Are you responsible?"
"No." I buried my fingers in the locks of my hair to make sense of her incoherent words. "Why am I in the hospital bed?" Before he could answer, the door of the room opened followed by a doctor with a clipboard in his hands to examine me. "Can I go?"
"In a minute," The doctor interrupted my eagerness to see her. "First I need to check your health."
"I am fine. It was just an anxiety attack. I have anxiety. No big deal." I wrenched the tube out of my hand and threw it on the table. "Happy? I need to see her."
He tusked at my actions, glanced at my family and moved it back to mine. "I expect decent behaviour from Dr. Oberoi's nephew." As if understanding my silent stare, he continued, "Did you ever had a blackout before?"
"Yes. The first time I had an attack."
"After that?"
"My mom helped me, okay? I need to see my girlfriend. So, can I go now?"
"Adi," Dad scolded from the door, his eyebrows stitched together in worry. "Hitakshi is fine. Alina is with her. Nisha is her doctor. The sooner you answer his questions, the sooner you can go to meet her."
"But she needs me!"
"She woke up three hours ago and she is doing fine without you." His eyes twitched in worry, his hand rested on my shoulder and squeezed it lightly. "Hitakshi is going home with us, and I promise to you she is okay. She told Alina everything."
Nodding, I faced the doctor and answered, "No, that was the only time I fainted. I think I am fine."
"I agree you are fine," The doctor explained. "But you had a terrible attack to make you faint. So, we had to give you sedatives to keep you on sleep. You are good to go but it would be suggested to stay out of stressful situations for a while."
"Got it."
"Fan of meds?" He asked.
"Not even a bit," I replied snarkily.
"Okay," He drawled out. "But I need you to tell me what happened."
"I tell you, doc." I fisted the bedcover under my nails. "My girlfriend killed herself in front of me. My girlfriend comes to me beaten. I tried to help her but my anxiety restricted me to move. That's what happened."
