Hunter walked through the condo, his eyes scanning the papers he had just received from Mr. Vangrove. Lucy’s accomplishments were becoming well known and the Third Division was now ahead of the Second Division in successful ratings. All that hard work has finally paid off, Hunter thought as he grabbed a beer out of the fridge and collapsed onto the couch. He was reading over Lucy’s latest accomplishment when Cody opened the door to the condo and marched over. Hunter raised his eyes and looked up at Cody, who had a grim expression on his face.
“Don’t look at me like that,” Hunter warned as he returned his gaze to the papers. Cody held out his arms in a desperate manner.
“You’ve made it back up to the top. We need to return what we took from Lucy,” Cody said and Hunter snorted a laugh.
“I don’t intend on returning anything to her. Besides, we aren't at the top yet,” Hunter grumbled and Cody tightened his hands into fists.
“Do you realize what she asked me the other day?” Cody practically yelled and Hunter lowered the papers in irritation as Cody continued. “She asked me what a ‘movie’ was. Hunter, what all did you take from her?”
“As I said before, anything else that interferes with her work as a Black Op Agent will be removed,” Hunter said as he stood up. He turned his eyes towards Cody coldly. “You’ll do well to remember that you were the one to suggest it.”
“I suggested using Window to see what she had gone through,” Cody said darkly. “I had no intention of removing memories or human traits.”
“That’s why I’m the boss,” Hunter said as he opened his beer and took a gulp. “Those decisions don’t matter to you.” Cody glared at Hunter as he continued to sip his beer. Footsteps sounded out in the hallway and Cody looked over his shoulder to see the door open and Lucy walk in. She was caring a package and she looked thoroughly exhausted. She noticed them standing there and she raised an eyebrow.
“Did I miss something important?” she asked as she walked over and Cody didn’t answer. Hunter smiled sheepishly at her and extended a hand to receive the package.
“Nothing of importance,” Hunter said as he examined the package. “Cody told me you had an interesting question. What was it?” Lucy turned slightly red in the cheeks and looked down at the ground.
“Oh. That question.” Lucy was silent for a moment. “Hunter, is a movie of any importance? A lot on my trips and missions, I saw a lot of people buying them and selling them. What are they exactly?”
“They are an object that ordinary citizens use,” Hunter said evenly as he looked at Lucy and Cody scowled. “You, Lucy, are not an ordinary citizen. You are a member of the Third Division; you don’t need to worry about such a useless object.”
“So they aren’t anything important, huh,” Lucy said thoughtfully as she put a finger to her lips.
“Don’t be concerned about what the citizen’s use,” Hunter said as he set the package on the table. “That isn’t important to you.” Cody watched as Lucy looked a bit depressed, but nodded in agreement and Hunter smiled at her. Cody growled and left, walking into the kitchen. Hunter watched him go out of the corner of his eye and Lucy cocked her head.
“Is Cody okay?” Hunter pulled out his pocket knife and set his beer down. Hunter felt Lucy’s eyes on him but he wasn’t going to answer her. Hunter slid his knife through the tape and ripped open the package. His eyes widened when he saw an outfit for a girl in there, as well as a stack of cash, a passport, a pistol, and a fake ID.
“Who gave you this package?” Hunter said as he observed the ID. Lucy stiffened up.
“It was Commander Henry of the US military. He gave that to me and another member of the First Division. I believe you were supposed to call him after you received the package to get further orders,” Lucy said as she thought about all the things she was supposed to relay. She nodded her head with a small smile on her face when she seemed satisfied. What’s the meaning of this?! Hunter thought angrily as he walked into his room. He looked over his shoulder.
“Don’t move.” Lucy nodded her head and stood completely still as Hunter closed the door. He walked over his communications table and grabbed the remote and pointed it to the TV that hung high on the wall. A picture of Commander Henry pulled up in his Navy uniform, his head neatly shaved and his eyes as cold as ever. He smiled when he saw Hunter.
“I was wondering when you were going to contact me,” Commander Henry said and Hunter held up the ID, getting straight to the point.
“What is this for, Henry? What is your intention?”
“I want Lucy and a group from the First Division to complete a task, what they were designed to do in the first place,” Commander Henry said furiously. “Unless you think Lucy is not fitted for such a job?”
“Lucy can handle anything,” Hunter said strictly. He glared to the side before returning his eyes to the screen. “What are the details?”
“I want them to catch a serial killer, as well as a main drug dealer. His name is Bruce Walker, a middle aged man. I believe with Lucy and our members in disguise, we can catch him.”
“Who would she be working with?” Hunter pressed and Commander Henry just smiled at him.
“That’s for you to find out. Well, Hunter? Do you accept? By doing so you give yourself a chance to become the top.” Hunter flinched back at those words. “Yes, I know all about your sneaky ambitions. But you see, I am also an ambitious man. I’ll see to it that you get what you deserve should Lucy be successful. So, do we have a deal?”
Hunter smiled darkly at Commander Henry. “So, I’ve been discovered.”
“It wasn’t hard, Hunter. Anyone could see that blind ambition.”
“You’ll give me what I desire?” Hunter said as the grin grew.
“All and more,” Commander Henry said and Hunter’s eyes gleamed with greed.
“Then it’ll be a pleasure working with you,” Hunter said nodding his head. “Lucy will head to the assigned location tomorrow morning.”
“I expect great results,” Commander Henry said and then the screen went black. Hunter turned the TV off, considering the deal. He walked back out to the living room to discover that Lucy still hadn’t moved a muscle.
“Lucy, you have a new mission. You are to go undercover with another group to capture a serial killer.”
“Is that what all this stuff is for?” Lucy said as she made a funny face at the box.
“Yes. You’ll be meeting up with your partners at the 7-Eleven down the street at 8 a.m. I don’t expect you to be late.”
“Who are my partners?” Lucy asked sourly and Hunter could tell her enthusiasm just went down the drain at the mention of having partners.
“I wasn’t told yet,” he said crossly. He faced Lucy with a fierce gaze. “Your skill out shines any soldier in the Black Op Agency. Do not forget your mission, and do not let any outside pleasures get the better of you. Do this and you shall be rewarded upon your return.”
“I won’t let you down, Hunter,” Lucy said as she gave a small bow to him.
“Then return to your room and stay there till you leave,” Hunter said dismissively and Lucy walked off towards her large cell ‘room’ and slammed the iron door shut. Hunter took a deep breath and exhaled, his imagination getting the better of him as he thought about what he could be receiving upon Lucy’s success. Hunter knew Lucy would succeed in this mission—for that is what he built her to do.
