Lucy’s eyes snapped opened, her breath coming in gasps. She didn’t know why she was trembling and why her body was covered in a cold sweat. Why am I frozen in fear? Lucy thought as her trembling increased in magnitude to where she was shaking her whole bed. The room was pitch black and Lucy could hardly see the faint outlines of the furniture in the hotel room. Get it together, Lucy thought as she sat up at hugged her stomach, willing for her trembling to stop. Lucy caught sight of the outline of the lamp and she quickly threw her covers off, quietly proceeding to the lamp. She turned it on and its faint glow immediately ceased her trembling and she felt alright. I guess I need this on, just like in my old room, Lucy thought as she walked back to her bed. Lucy heard rustling and she glanced up to see Ian roll over and look at her with sleepy eyes.
“You okay?” he whispered as he blinked a couple times and Lucy looked away from him. She was still a bit upset that he wouldn’t let her remove her clothes to sleep. It’s not like she was completely naked underneath. She just didn’t understand what the problem was.
“I’m fine,” she whispered back and Ian’s eyes flickered over to the lamp.
“Are you going to turn that off?” Lucy’s uneasy expression seemed to have changed Ian’s mind as he sighed and rolled back over. “Just don’t turn any more on.” Lucy watched in as his breathing relaxed again, sending him back to sleep. Why is it that they can sleep in the dark no problem? Am I lacking some type of training? Lucy got back underneath her covers and pulled them up to her nose. Lucy had several questions she wanted to ask them but she would have to wait until morning. Lucy closed her eyes and tried to regulate her breathing once again. An image of a large fire passed before her eyes and she sat bolt right up, her breathing heavy again. She put her hand to her head as a large headache was coming on. What is this? I’m probably exhausted. I’m just seeing things now. Calming herself back down, she laid back down and rolled over to face the lamp, closing her eyes and finally drifting back to sleep.
The next morning Lucy was up before Ian and Brady so she quickly dressed into her outfit from yesterday and sat on her assigned bed, observing the magical rectangle. She couldn’t remember how she turned the giant screen on; she wanted to watch that lion show again. I think Ian called it the Lion King, Lucy thought as she fiddled with the rectangle. Rustling over in the next bed startled her and she dropped the rectangle on the floor. Brady slowly sat up and his eyes drifted over to her.
“Why are you awake so bloody early?” he asked as he stretched his hands over his head. Lucy shrugged at him, not knowing herself why she did get up early. She bent over and picked up the rectangle and showed it to Brady.
“Can you make this work again?” Lucy asked and Brady raised an eyebrow at her. “I can’t remember how you turn on the screen. I think it was with this.”
“It’s called a remote,” Brady said as he yawned, clearly unamused. Lucy looked at it again and made a funny face.
“That’s a weird name,” she said as she set it back down on the dresser. She watched as Brady pulled out his phone and then he scowled.
“Hey Ian,” he said as he knocked him over the head. “How long are you going to sleep?”
“Shut up,” Ian replied and Lucy cocked her head to the side.
“Is that the normal way to wake people up?” she asked and she got a weird look from Brady. “If so, Cody and Hunter have been doing it wrong.”
“No, this is the demonstration on how to not wake people up,” Ian said as he sat up rubbing his head. Ian glared at Brady. “What?”
“Lucas said we still haven’t received an official order so we are supposed to go out and gather information today,” Brady said as he wiggled the phone in Ian’s face. Lucy perked up, her excitement rising up within her.
