“That was the worst meeting in my life,” Brady growled as he slammed the car door shut and crossed his arms. Ian hesitated before getting in the car, his eyes drifting back up to look at the courthouse they came from. They had just finished in a meeting with the captain of Hell’s Gate Division and the members of the Supreme Court. Ian knew it was bad if the members of the Supreme Court had agreed to meet in a local courthouse in downtown Dallas. This just means that Lucy is getting exactly what she wants—a widespread panic. Ian got in the car and slammed it shut.
“We don’t have a lot of time,” Ian mumbled as he ran his hands over his face and through his hair.
“At least they agreed to give us about a month before the creepy guys move in,” Brady said in a monotone voice. “The captain of the Hell’s Division is one scary guy. I’d hate to get in his way.”
“Yeah, well we all know that Lucy would love the challenge,” Ian growled as he started the car, backed up and got back on the highway. “The mere thought of it would make her excited.”
“I wonder where she is now,” Brady wondered and Ian’s own thoughts echoed Brady’s.
“Let’s just focus on the information gathering right now,” Ian said.
“I’m getting a really bad feeling, Ian,” Brady said as he traced the window with his finger. “Something big is about to happen.”
“I've had that feeling the day Lucy recovered her memories,” Ian muttered as he pulled into the safe house of Division One, currently serving as their base of operations. They walked in the back doors and headed straight for Lucas’ office. Ian didn’t even bother to knock as he opened the door and paraded in.
“They gave us another month,” Brady said as he smirked at Ian’s rudeness. Lucas lifted his eyes up off the document he was reading and raised an eyebrow.
“That’s better than nothing,” he said as he placed the document on the table and sat up straighter. “We’ve already had about a month of pure hell. What’s one more going to do?”
“Give us a chance to actually catch Lucy,” Ian scowled and Lucas looked over at him.
“You boys are exhausted,” he said with a smile. “Don’t you sleep?”
“We’re busy trying to find something,” Brady answered as he lowered his head. “We want the old Lucy back.”
“I know boys,” Lucas said as he rose to his feet. “As does the rest of the country. Speaking of that, take a look at this.” Lucas pulled out a photo from the crime scene and Ian and Brady walked over and examined it.
“It’s the man in the cage again,” Ian said in disgust.
“Here’s a close up of the photo,” Lucas said as he handed them another copy. They scanned it and Brady’s face twisted in shock.
“His stomach looks like it’s been eaten,” he said as he made a small gagging noise.
“That’s because you are right,” Lucas said as he pulls out a large cage. Ian and Brady recoiled from the two large rats that were circling within the cage. Lucas patted the cage and gave them a serious expression. “These rats were found around the plantation where Lucy left us that little present of hers. They have remains of human flesh inside of them.”
“That’s just wrong,” Brady said shaking his head, eyeing the rats as if they were some kind of mutated monster.
“Why rats?” Ian asked and Lucas gave them a sad smile.
“The man in the cage was Lucy’s father,” Lucas explained and their eyes widened with disbelief. “Lucy used the rats, as well as other means of torture, to kill him.” Lucas picked up the cage and carried it over to the corner. “The lab will come and collect these guys later,” Lucas said as he saw the expressions of Ian and Brady. He walked over and handed a smile device to Ian. “I know you boys are tired, but Lucy struck again. The GPS will take you there. And be cautious of what you find.” Ian took the GPS and they walked out the door. Plugging it up, they followed the signal all the way to the interstate to a small bar. They noticed a bunch of cars were outside, but police tape lined the entire area. They pulled up and got out of the car and told the officers on standby they could back off for a bit. They walked in and they immediately had to close their eyes.
