Cody sat with his face buried in his hands. Not only did Lucy escape, they had no way of tracking her and their communications was down. Cody wondered how many times Lucy had been in this building before she set her plan into action. Ian and Brady were too busy looking for traces of their family to worry about trying to reestablish connections with the Pentagon and with Washington DC. To top it off, Dr. Vaun had gone missing. He vanished the instant Lucy did and Cody had an ominous feeling about what future awaited the doctor. Cody groaned and leaned back in his chair and stared at the ceiling.
“I should’ve seen this coming,” he whispered to himself.
“You shouldn’t be blaming yourself.” Cody looked up and saw Lucas walk into the room. He pulled up a chair and looked at him as he sat down. Cody could tell Lucas hadn’t gotten much sleep. “You have been in a coma. If anything, this mess falls on me.”
“But Lucy was still my responsibility,” Cody said. Lucas looked at him.
“I’ve got some news,” he said quietly. Cody eyed him curiously. “I contacted DC, and the Supreme Court isn’t happy with what has happened. They have placed Lucy’s case in the Hell’s Gate Division now.”
“They realize they can’t kill her!” Cody shouted as he stood up, enraged. “Did you tell them about what Lucy did to the states?”
“I did,” Lucas said calmly. “They said if we can find the bombs, our orders are to deactivate them.”
“That’s common sense,” Cody snapped.
“If we can’t, then they would rather see them go than the whole country go up in flames.”
“Do they not understand that Lucy will have the entire country rigged by the time they find her?” Cody seethed. Lucas looked up at him.
“They have given orders to kill Lucy on sight. However, I convinced them that if we cannot find the bombs before Hell’s Gate finds Lucy, she’ll be pardoned until she tells us where they are.”
“So we’re given a time limit,” Cody growled. He eyed Lucas. “By pardoned they mean—“
“Brutally tortured by the Hell’s Gate,” Lucas interrupted. “Yes, that’s what they’ll do.” Cody paced the room before stopping in front of Lucas.
“Who are they sending?”
“They are risking nothing,” Lucas said. “They’re sending Crane and Demetri.” Cody hissed with annoyance.
“If Lucy knows that she’ll make the entire country her battle ground.”
“Which is what they want,” Lucas said. “Crane and Demetri are as dangerous and violent as they come. I would have to say they may be on the same level as Lucy. I’m sure they will find her before we can find the bombs.”
“Contact Congress again and put it in their minds that they can’t kill her automatically,” Cody ordered. “We still have to find the President and the VP, as well as the others.”
“Speaking of that,” Lucas said. “You’re not going to like this.”
“What now?” Cody said as he turned back around.
“They want Ian and Brady to join in on the hunt.”

I was lying on the roof of the First Division’s new headquarters. I adjusted the earpiece in my ear as I listened to Cody and Lucas’ conversation about this Hell’s Gate Division. I was smiling that I was finally getting the attention I deserved. It’s about time boys, I thought as I pulled out my computer, sitting up. I looked up Crane and Demetri and smiled when I recognized them. Just the men I wanted out, I thought as I closed it and slowly descended from the roof. That commander did come in handy. I landed heavily on the ground and proceeded around the corners of the streets into the car I rightfully stole. I drove around the highway until I came to my hotel. I walked straight up to my room and opened my door. The muffled sounds in the room brought a smile to my face as I closed the door.
