I woke up and found the pile of clothes that I had asked to be washed in a neat pile on the chair. I picked them up and got changed. It was just the skirt and crop top that I wore yesterday. I pulled out my phone from my jacket pocket and saw that it was nearly dead so I texted Mum.
'Please bring my charger over,' -Alexa.
I put my phone away and folded the gown up. I neatened up the bed and binned the remainder of the cold pizza. I brushed my hair with my fingers as I had no brush and I left my hair out. I went to the bathroom to use the toilet and I washed my face and then I went back to my room and waited.
"Ryan!" I squealed as he came into the room.
"Sup, Lex," He said.
He came to me and hugged me tight.
"I'm supposed to be going college and it took me ages to find this room," he said, rolling his eyes.
"I'm so glad I get to miss school, I have PE and Science today," I said.
"I bought you breakfast," he said.
He showed me the bag of McDonalds.
"I got you a hash brown bagel, I don't even know if it tastes any good, but here you go," he said, handing me the bag.
"Thanks," I said.
"I have to go now but Mum will be here in a minute or so," he said.
He kissed me on the forehead and left. I pulled out the bagel with the hash brown in a separate packet. I buttered the bagel with the plastic knife and the small tub of butter. I then put the hash brown in the middle and ate it. It did taste pretty good.
"Hi Alexa," Mum said.
She hugged me and gave me a backpack. I opened it and it had some clothes, a brush, my charger, a toothbrush and a toothpaste tube.
"Lilly got you some stuff together and John sends his love," she said.
"Thanks," I said.
I plugged in the charger in the plug socket that was next to the bed and I put my phone on charge. I grabbed the toothbrush and toothpaste.
"I'm going to go brush my teeth," I said.
"Alright," She said.
I brushed my teeth in the bathroom and headed back to my room and Dr. Ray was there. He smiled at me but I could tell that there was something wrong. His eyes held sympathy and I knew that there was something wrong.
"Hi Alexa, could you and Mum follow me, please?" He said.
I put my toothbrush and the toothpaste on the small table and Mum and I followed him. He led us into his office and told us to sit down.
"So, we've done some tests and the results were unfortunately quite negative. We've found a tumour in your lungs which is significantly big, it has spread to both of your lungs. We know it's definitely cancer cells because of the blood tests we've taken. I can tell you that you have lung cancer that is at stage four because it has, unfortunately, spread to the brain. Now we've diagnosed it, we can start talking about treatment and procedures to get rid of your cancer or minimise it," he said.
I felt my world come crashing down but I kept a smile on. I had cancer. I felt Mum's arms being wrapped around me as she embraced me in a hug. Mum was crying.
"Am I going to die?" I asked, my voice cracked.
"I can't really say right now but hopefully after we start your treatment then we'll know how well the cancer cells react to the treatment," he said.
