Y/N groaned as she woke up. She looked to the side to see Bucky, looking at her then starting to walk away. She then scrambled to her feet.
"Bucky, wait," she said.
He stopped, turned his head slightly, and told her, "I can't stay here."
"Bucky, it's not your fault. HYDRA is to blame for what happened to you," Y/N replied as she started to walk toward him.
"But I could've tried to resist it," Bucky pointed out.
"You did to an extent. You somehow remembered me, which I'm still trying to figure out," she said.
He sighed, turned around, and explained, "When they started experimenting on me, I had these dreams that were similar. They were of us, you telling me you love me. No matter what they did to me, the dreams stayed. And when I saw you clearly for the first time, seeing the girl from my dreams who I thought was a fantasy, half of me was rethinking what I was doing while the other half wanted to finish the mission I was given."
Y/N started to smile while tearing up, saying, "Maybe because of the half that rethought everything they put in your head, you saw that we can still be together."
"No. I can't risk that. I have to leave and I don't want you to find me," Bucky stated.
She was immediately taken back by this. She got behind him and turned him around, but he wasn't meeting her gaze. She put her hand under his chin and lifted his face up to see her face. She placed her hand on his cheek and he leaned into her touch.
"Please don't ask me to do that. I thought I lost you seventy years ago. I'm not losing you again," she said.
"I'm a lost cause. You wouldn't lose anything if I'm gone," he remarked.
"That's not true. You're worth more to me than anything and I want to be with you. I can't be put through the pain I had when you were gone. Let me come with you," Y/N begged.
Bucky pulled her to him, kissed her, then said, "No."
He left and Y/N looked after him as tears started forming. Then she tended to Steve until help came.
