Chapter 13: Nick Fury is Dead

Natasha made it to the hospital and met up with Steve and Y/N. The doctors were operating on Nick to remove any bullets.

"Is he gonna make it?" Natasha wondered.

"I don't know," Steve answered.

"Tell me about the shooter," Natasha said.

"He's fast and strong. Had a metal arm," Y/N said.

"You're his sister, aren't you?" Natasha asked, Y/N nodded, and Natasha introduced, "Natasha Romanoff."

"Nice to meet you," Y/N said.

Agent Hill soon joined them.

"Ballistics?" Natasha asked.

"Three slugs, no rifling. Completely untraceable," Hill answered.

"Soviet-made," Natasha guessed.

"Yeah," Hill answered.

That's when Nick's heart stopped and the nurses and doctors scrambled to get him back. Steve, Y/N, Natasha, and Hill were shocked as Nick wasn't responding.

"Don't do this to me, Nick," Natasha pleaded to herself.

Nick was shocked with the defibrillator, but he didn't respond. So they did it again, but the same result occurred.

"Don't do this to me, Nick. Don't do this to me," Natasha continued to beg.

They could only watch as the doctors continued to use the defibrillator. But Nick still wasn't responding, so the doctors called his death. Steve had turned away as Y/N started crying.

She may not have known Nick very long, but he's the reason she was back and reunited with her older brother.

She looked back at Steve, who was looking at the flash drive. She approached him and hugged his arm. In response, Steve leaned his head on top of hers.

Natasha, Steve, and Y/N were in a room where Nick's body was laid out. Natasha was crying as she looked at him. Hill then came up to them.

"I need to take him," Hill said.

The siblings approached Natasha.

"Natasha," Steve called.

She stayed quiet as she placed her hand on Nick's forehead then left the room.

"Natasha!" Steve called as he and Y/N followed.

"Why was Fury in your apartment? I understand why Y/N wouldn't know, but you ought to," Natasha asked.

"I don't know," Steve shrugged.

Rumlow then came up to them.

"Cap, they want you and your sister back at SHIELD," Rumlow informed.

"Yeah, give us a second," Steve requested.

"They want you both now," Rumlow said.

"Okay," Steve answered then turned back to Natasha.

"You're a terrible liar," Natasha said then turned and left.

"She's got a point," Y/N pointed out.

"Shut up," Steve said.

"STRIKE team, escort Captain and Lady Rogers back to SHIELD immediately for questioning," Sitwell commanded over Rumlow's earpiece.

"I told them," Rumlow said.

Steve and Y/N noticed the vending machine next to them, looked to each other, and nodded. Once done, they walked towards Rumlow.

"Let's go," Steve said as he had an arm around Y/N protectively.

"Yeah," Rumlow answered, looking Y/N up and down, then told the agents, "STRIKE, move it out."

They hid the flash drive in the vending machine behind a few packs of gum.
