sorry for so many time jumps in this chapter, i tried my hardest to make it all work but i often forget how quick these episodes go in terms of like, plot. damn.

"I don't believe that."
Valt stood his ground against his best friend's words. Shu stands in front of him with equally stern, red eyes. The two stare at each other for a good long while but your owner cracks first. Valt's mouth presses itself in a tense, almost scared line once he truly sees how serious Shu was.
"How can you even say such a thing?" Rantaro asks.
Shu had caught you three searching for Daina after Rantaro told you he had quit the club. You three were hoping to put some sense into him, but it turns out he left early. Shu had to tell you about his conversation he had with Daina yesterday, along with the unfortunate reality of what he had done.
Shu looks at Rantaro. His face was stoic, but there's an underlying hint of disappointment too. "It's true. Kurogami cheated."
Daina's messages and Shu's phone call from yesterday. It all comes rushing back to your head as you finally realized what you've been neglecting. You immediately take out your phone, unlocked it, and swiped down to see the messages still left unread.
[Daina] 5:25pm
Hey, [First name], can we talk? I have something to ask you
It's not really urgent, but I need your opinion on something
[Daina] 9:10pm
I know Shu just called you about an hour ago, but I was wondering if you have time now? I need something off my chest
[Daina] 10:23pm
Nevermind. Sorry for bothering you, I've decided on what to do. Disregard everything above. Talk to you later.
You had a hand over your mouth as you scroll through these messages. Each one continued to fill you with regret. It was around six when you took Rantaro home, spent the next two hours walking to the bakery, finding Zac, battling him, and went back home to eat then sleep. You barely remembered having a phone the whole day yesterday aside from Shu's call.
You did say you had no idea when you'll have the free time to talk to him—but you should've at least checked your phone. You remembered handing it off to Valt whenever you'd be transforming, but never got it back until this morning. Biting down on your finger, the guilt eats you alive as Valt continues talking.
"Cheating in a Beybattle. . ." Valt mumbles under his breath. "There's no way Daina would do that."
"Yeah. That guy's as honest as one can get," Rantaro agreed.
"I thought so, too," Shu admitted while averting his eyes. He ponders for a second and hums. "I'm sure Kurogami's gone to see Nansui Yugo."
A thick, cold silence washes over the group as you sat with the unbelievable truth. Rantaro was the first to break this as he clicks his tongue, scratching his neck while averting his eyes. "That guy. . ."
