Chester's POV
That next day, Mike and I got up and got dressed to go get my hair dyed. I gave him directions to my aunts hair salon. My aunt was a hairdresser, so I always got my hair dyed by her. I didn't feel comfortable doing it myself, and she didn't charge so it was perfect.
We didn't talk about us not being close in public, the media, or the award show for the entire day. I was so thankful for that. I hated that I had made Mike feel bad by not holding his hand or letting him kiss me in public that day, but I was so scared about people snapping pictures again.
I knew that eventually people would know and it would be out, but I wanted to hold off as long as I could.
On our drive to the salon, we just talked about normal everyday things like our families and all that. It was good having a conversation that didn't involve what Mike did for a living for once.
When we got to the place, Mike opened my door for me like a gentleman. I intertwined his hand in mine not even caring if people saw anymore. Mike's mood instantly brightened ten times when I took his hand in mine.
We went in and my aunt smiled big and ran over to me as if she hadn't seen me in years when in reality it had been only a week or so since I last saw her.
"Chester! How are you? It's so good so see you." She said as she hugged me. "I'm good Aunt Beth." I said. She pulled away and looked at Mike. "And this must be Mike." She said. Mike smiled and nodded. "Yeah that's me." He said as he held out his hand for her to shake. She waved him off. "Oh I hope you don't mind, but I'm a bit of a hugger." She said as she pulled him in for a rough hug. He chuckled. "I don't mind at all. I love hugs." He said.
"Well come sit and let me get your hair done." She said as she led me further into the room to a seat. "Blonde again?" She asked. "No. I'm gonna go back brown." I said. "Oh good. I've missed your natural color." She said.
She got everything ready and then started putting the dye in my hair. "How's school?" She asked. "Sucky?" I said. "Got good grades?" She asked. "No. I'm going to finish my make up work today though so hopefully that'll bring up my grades." She nodded and turned her full attention to my hair.
She finished putting the dye in and I had to sit for a bit before we washed it.
"I already miss the blonde spikes." Mike said as he wiped a fake tear. "Sorry Mike. Now it's gonna be tiny brown curls." I said. "Curls?" "Yeah. My hair is actually naturally curly, but I just put so much product in it that they never show." "Aw curls are cute." He said. I just laughed. "Why do you always were hats now? I remember seeing you spike up your hair sometimes." He shrugged. "Mostly because I shaved my head and now my hair is in that awkward stage were it's not long enough to spike it up again and not short enough to where I think it looks okay." I nodded.
Finally, my aunt got done with my hair and we left to go back to my house.
"I like it." Mike said as he glanced over at me while we were driving home. "Yeah?" "Yeah. I mean, it's gonna be weird seeing you without blonde spikes, but I like how it is now." He said. "Thank you."
We went to my house and went to my room. I got all of the papers that I needed to finish and tossed the stack onto the floor. I sat down and crossed my legs and motioned for Mike to sit with me. His eyes widened when he saw the stack of papers.
He sat on the floor in front of me and picked up some of the math papers.
"Um... okay? I don't know what any of this means." He said. "What the fuck is an imaginary number? If it's imaginary, then why do you have to learn it? Also, what are asymtotes?" He asked. I sighed. "I honestly don't know. Ask my algebra teacher." I said. "What other subjects do you have besides algebra?" He asked.
