Phillip's Pov
She left.
She actually left.
The imprint of her hand was still on mine. The trail of a few rebellious water droplets and the lavender scent of oil Lizzy would use on her hands was all that remained of her touch.
But her voice keeps echoing in my head, ringing back and forth, ear to ear.
They were looking for you Phillip.
Who was looking for me? Why are they looking for me? Why would they take Hannah?
Questions rattled my brain as the carriage bumped against the pot holes in the road. It was still mid morning, an hour or two out from noon I would assume. And here I was, stuck inside a carriage going back to where I started with no change in my own knowledge.
And Lizzy, oh only God knows what she has got planned. And knowing her, it isn't going to be something small. She thinks, or well knows, that I am in in apparent danger and therefore she is going to go save the day, save Hannah.
I always thought it was the other way around. That I was meant to save her, the prince saves the princess as Helen has drilled into my mind from her endless fairy tale recitals. But even with us, I thought that it was even. I save her, she saves me.
We always took the risk together.
But now? Now Lizzy is taking it upon her self to fix who knows what this actually is. I mean, I don't even have the slightest idea of where she would be going, what she would be doing or even the tiniest grasp of the situation. She is keeping it all to herself, letting her self bear it so we wouldn't have to.
The scenery outside, for once, didn't interest me. The new spring had formed. The malachite-green fields ... the yipping fox cubs ... the clouds which were shaped like tufty pillows, gliding slowly across the sky. What usually I would stop to marvel at with Lizzy, I could show little interest in. My mind was focused on the conversation.
Her sea green eyes which constantly met mine as she spoke. Telling me about how this is her fight and her fight alone. Telling me, no almost crying, about how worried she was about putting me in danger. And I just stood their, as if I was a child trying to comprehend the world. Leaving her alone with her thoughts.
I knew something had been bothering her. Ever since the stay at Countess Adele's, something had been bothering her. Probably the build of of information that she refused to share with anyone, taking the burden for us all. And alongside that there was that fire at the dance studio and her rushing in to save Helen.
Helen....Dance studio. Barnum had said something in the carriage, something about how the new dance instructor knew Lizzy and myself. But I don't think P.T had mentioned anything about who the instructor was, then again - I didn't see any dance instructor at the fire.
Out of my coat pocket, I pulled out the note Lizzy had left me in the first place. The one she had scribbled on the back of the title page of Great Expectations
Everything Connects.
I slid open the little hatch which allowed me to talk to the driver. "Excuse me, sir? Would you be able to take me to the resident's of the Barnum's?" I asked to which I got a grunt in response, which I assumed to be a yes as he turned the carriage onto a side road - leading us to Barnum house.
I had a theory, which I am praying not to be true. Because if it is, most of the things Lizzy has told me has been wrong. Some of them correct, but majority were misinterpreted. She was correct that everything connect but not in the way she was thinking. And if my theory proves to be correct....
I swallowed when I realised what it meant.
I wasn't the one who was in danger.
Lizzy was.
A/N
Hey guys. Sorry for the short-ish chapter. Also it is a bit choppy it places, I thought that Phillip wouldn't really be thinking 100% straight. He would be a bit all over the place with the current situation at hand.
Anyway,How are you all? I am soo close to completing the playlist, it should be up within the next week or so (depending on homework).
Random question of the day (cause I haven't done this for ages):
*What book would you like see adapted or re-adapted into a movie?
For me it would be the Lunar Chronicles :D.
Have a great day/night.
Until Next time.
Love,
Maya.
