I don't remember much. The last thing I remember was screaming out for someone, but even that was a blur.
I woke in a room which I was unfamiliar with. There were no sheets of fabric dividing one room into two, meaning that I wasn't in the apartment. The walls were a beige/yellow in colour and I was in a plush bed which was much bigger than my single one at the theatre.
Using the wooden bed ends for support, I hoisted my self up, the plush quilt falling back onto the bed gracefully. It was the first time I had ever felt my head spin like when I am on the trapeze. Black dots swirled in and out of my sight, but I maintained my up right stance and waited until everything was back to normal...kind of.
Slowly , with one foot at a time, I walked up to the huge wooden door and paused when I could hear five different voices. I could make out Anne's and W.D's as well as Mr Barnum's. The fourth must be his wife - which would explain where I am. And the fifth....It couldn't possibly be? Phillip?
I pushed the door open with it creaking noisily. Everyone's heads turned and it would impossible to describe the different emotions in the room.
"Elizabeth!" Anne said as she ran towards me and embraced me in a hug. "Thank the lord that you are okay!"
W.D just silently walked over and pulled me into a hug with Anne.
I smiled at everyone while Mrs Barnum took me over to a seat.
"How are you feeling" She questioned.
I took a moment to analyse what parts of my body hurt before answering her question.
"My head hurts as well as my ribs but other than that I think I'm okay. But what happened?"
Phillip looked up implored this question. "You don't remember?"
It was the first time I had actually studied his face since I entered the room. His face was a bit blotched with a yellow tint, like that of a fading bruise, and it seemed that Mrs Barnum had cleaned up a cut on his hand. And his eyes that were usually filled with joy and excitement had been replaced with those which were condemned with worry and anxiousness.
I shook my head lightly.
"She will eventually" Mrs Barnum said, speaking to nobody particularly, "It will just take some time."
Mr Barnum then sat down next to me and began to explain the events from the night before. "Well Elizabeth last night after you left the circus, you encounter some protestors. Phillip heard someone scream and went out to investigate. That is when he saw you, unconscious, on the ground with severe injuries - nothing to serious, just some bruising and a minor concussion. Phillip brought you back in side and along with myself, Anne and W.D, we brought you here where Charity and the girls helped to get you on the mend."
"Thank you" I said gesturing to everyone, mainly Phillip, but everyone.
"Your concussion is slowly disappearing and with that the events of the night before should come back. And your bruising isn't that bad, thanks to Phillip. He stepped in before anything got worse." Mrs Barnum said and stood next to Mr Barnum.
Phillip and I met eyes before he swiftly moved them back to the floor.
"But Elizabeth, I mustn't allow you to perform for a couple of nights. Just until you injuries settle down a bit more."
"We will make sure of that Mr Barnum." W.D. said, in his big brother worried kind of voice.
