Anne's Pov
There hands were knitted together as the rocked on the chair he had kindly sat on. The person had black hair, almost resembling that of ash and eyes of a shade of chocolate.
Out of the corner of my eye I could see W.D and Lettie exchange looks as I crossed my arms. I mean surely I had a few stray bobby pins still in my hair, but I stood tall, towering over ther person by atleast a few inches.
"And who might you bed?" I asked as my fingertips twiddled with a loose piece of fabric on the side of my dress.
"I could ask the same about you." He replied back quickly, standing up. "I'm looking for Phillip Carlyle, I heard he worked here."
"You are correct." I state, not letting my eyes break away from his. There is no way he is going to think that he is just going to waltz in here and speak to Phillip without talking to anybody before hand. I mean, i usually deal with this stuff already. Make sure Phillip isn't intruded by any random person, friend or foe, while he is trying to get stuff readu for tonights show. "However, he is not here currently. And may I ask for your name."
"Thomas Carter." The man, Thomas, replied as he carded a hand through his hair, pulling a bunch of the ash coloured hair to the side. Thomas Carter. Lizzy had mentioned something about that name before hand, at the dinner with the Carlyles. He tried to, i think the word would be, seduce Lizzy while Locking Phillip in the kitchen. I heard W.D take a small step forward, to which i quickly placed a single hand in front of him. Telling him not to go any further.
"W.D and Lettie can you go see how the rest of the show is going while I deal with Mr Carter here?" I asked, but i didn't really. It was more of a kind suggestion in a sort of authortive tone. W.D shot me a quick look before, leaving Lettie following closely behind him.
"May i ask who you are miss? Or I am i to be left in the dark?" Thomas questioned, rasing his eyebrow.
"Anne Wheeler. But i know all about you Mr Carter."
"You do?"
"Yes. Where should I begin? The fact that you tried to seduce my best friend, Elizabeth? Or the fact that you locked Phillip in the kitchen so you could attempt to seduce Elizabeth? Or the fact that you told Elizabeth that Phillip had gone home, left her alone in a house where she clearly felt uncomfarble?" I accused, causing the small smirk on Mr Carter's face to diminish.
The silence suggetsed that i had struck a chord in him. It took a few minutes for him to gather his thoughts to speak.
"Look, I'm not going to lie to you Miss Wheeler. I did do all those things. But I was unaware of the big picture. Lilia, Miss Griffin, just told me what to do and me being stupid, i agreed to." He bowed his head as he admitted all this. Probably for the first time since it all happened. But his tone, told me he regretted what he did.
"You love her," I began, causing his head to Jolt up, "Miss Lilia Griffin."
"I thought I did. I tried everything to get her to love me as well, propsed three times. But she kept saying all in good time, that Phillip needed to pay for what he did. When i asked what, she simply replied that Phillip had told her not to ever marry me. That i would not give her everything she needed." His eyes locked with mine, "I now know that to be false."
The echoing sound of people practising entered the room in small sound waves, before he continued to talk. "There isn't much time Miss Wheeler. Lilia is planning something, something big, at the old farm house at the edge of the forest and i'm afraid that Miss Elizabeth is in terrible danger."
I swallowed a big lump of worry that had formed in the back of my throat. Before i decied what we needed to do. A few of us would go help Lizzy and Phillip while the rest pretened like everything was normal here.
"Then we shouldn't waster anymore time, Mr Carter."
