Elizabeth's Pov
The girls had run off to somewhere in the theatre, probably to play hide and seek or something like that. I applied some light powder to my face, setting the little amount of makeup onto my face. Making sure it would not smear while I was performing.
I buttoned a small purple cape around my neck before heading out to practise ( and actually finalize) what I was doing for the closing act tomorrow night.
Anne and W.D were practising a new trick which they intended to do for tonight's show. I stood back, watching as the duo flew over each other, grabbing onto the others trapeze before doing some other little stunts. It was amazing how they managed to do this. Making a stunt appear as minimalistic as possible, executing it with the greatest of ease.
I thought it would be best to let them practise for longer, not that they needed to do anymore but W.D always insisted on trying a trick "once more" to make sure they had truly perfected it. It was the protective big brother side of him.
I walked down the dark hallways, the sky was over cast today. Allowing little natural light to come through the windows and illuminate the halls.
"Girls?" I said softly as I tried to find there wear about. I could hear little whispers of two very familiar voices as they echoed through out the tiny corridor. I lent up against the side of the hallway wall, listening to what the girls were saying.
"What are we going to do?" A voice questioned, which I made out to be Helen.
"We can't tell Lizzy." Caroline hushed.
"Can't tell me what?" I asked, pivoting around the corner, raising my eye brow at the two girls as I saw them stuff something into the back of their dresses.
"Um, How beautiful you look?" Helen's tone depicted a question rather than a compliment.
"Nice try, you used that one on me when you both ate the biscuits I made." I said. Then changing my tone, I told the girls that they could tell me anything.
The pair exchanged looks, Caroline nodding at Helen, both knowing that they couldn't get out of this. The two girls slowly removed two envelopes from the back of their dresses, one I recognised as one of the ones that Louisa had sent me.
"What are you doing with my letter?" I asked, confused on why the girls would need my letter.
Helen stepped forward and began to explain. "Well, ever since Hannah had come and told us that there was a spy here - Caroline and I have been doing some investigating, sort of. We couldn't find anything that told us there was a spy."
"Helen, that is because there is no spy."
"That is what I thought as well before we were in your dressing you." Helen muttered, the sound of her voice radiating in the hall.
I sat down on a hay barrel, attempting to understand what Helen was implying.
"My dressing room?" I quoted as I looked between the two girls who were standing sheepishly in front of me.
It was now Caroline's turn to talk.
"Helen noticed that Hannah Carlyle was hanging around in the market place, especially around the area of the post office. Then you told both of us, that you told this Louisa everything that had been happening here. That is when Helen put all the pieces together."
Caroline then sat down next to me, holding my hand reassuringly as if I was about to receive bad news. Which I expected I was.
"You see, Dad showed us something before he left. It was a trick where he would pull a coin out from behind your ear. But the trick was, It never left his hand. And I thought that maybe it might be the same for your letters. So I got an old letter of Hannah's from Phillip and compared it to Louisa. Lizzy, they had the same writing." Helen confessed.
