(Can you tell I'm running out of title ideas?)
I kept reassuring Connor that everything was okay. He was in such a traumatic state that he could hardly focus, therefore I was too. As long as I was near him, I'd feel what he felt. I noticed him trying to calm down and thinking more positive things. I felt myself relax a bit, taking a deep breath. I grasped onto him once again, feeling him relax under my touch.
Zoe came in, closing the door. She gave a sincere smile toward the both of us, signaling that she had settled things with Larry. I released Connor, flashing a smile as he and Zoe. "Hey, Ev, I'm so sorry about my dad. He's an asshole, trust me," Connor apologized, looking away once again.
I frowned, "It's alright, Con," "I'm also sorry, Evan. I knew that dad would ask that, I just didn't do anything fast enough," Zoe added in apologetically. I just sighed, "You guys shouldn't apologize for a tiny misunderstanding,"
Zoe and Connor both frowned. Zoe suddenly perked up, "Hey, Ev, you could spend the night here if you'd like!" I just looked at her, confused. "It's getting awfully late, and I wouldn't want to drive in the dark. How about you say you stay over?" she continued, winking at Connor.
I could feel Connor's anxiety as I shrugged. "I suppose I could stay over. I guess I could talk to Connor, after all." I replied. "Great! Call your mom and tell her something, I can have my mom and dad leave us alone for the night," Zoe exclaimed, smiling brightly. I returned the smile, watching her walk out the door as I called my mom.
I informed her that I'd be spending the night at Jared's house because of 'exam week.' Of course, she bought it. I heard Connor groan from behind me. I turned around, giving him a questioning look.
"Evan, Zoe is insane, don't mind her. Please, she's crazy," he begged. I just chuckled, "I'm sure she's not that bad." Zoe walked back into the room, tossing pillows at us. "We don't have any spare beds, so I suppose you two will have to share one," she stated happily, giving a suggestive smirk. I felt my face heat up, turning around to see Connor's face burn a deep shade of red.
Embarrassed, flustered, worried, nervous
"I-I wouldn't mind s-sleeping on the floor," he stuttered, nervous. "Nah, Connor, I insist. I mean, Evan would be fine with it, right, Evan?" Zoe said, giving a glare that could kill. Intimidated by her glare, I spluttered, "Y-Y-Yeah!"
"Nope, I call floor," Connor said, regaining confidence as he went to grab a blanket. Zoe sighed in defeat, "I tried," Zoe grabbed my hand, pulling me up as I felt my face heat up. She led me to Connor's room, releasing my hand as she told me to sit on his bed.
I did as told and waited for someone else to come. Connor soon came in with the pillows and blankets Zoe had given us. "If you need anything, just ask me, I'll try to get whatever you need," he said, sitting on the floor. I nodded, making myself comfortable.
Every few hours, Connor would ask me if I needed something, and each time, I told him "No," It was about midnight and Connor looked up from his book, "Are you sure you don't need anything? It's been like six hours." I honestly was pretty hungry, but I didn't want to bother him.
"No, not really," I repeated for about the one-hundredth time. Connor sighed, standing up. "I'm going to go get you a snack or something, I don't want you to starve while you're here," he said, walking out the door and closing it gently.
I pulled out my phone, realizing how many notifications I had received.
