I heard a knock at the door, causing me to stand up and start to go get it. I felt Evan grab my hand and Zoe motion that she'd get it. Evan had me sit down and I heard Zoe close the door, walking downstairs.
When she came back upstairs, she had Jared following her. "Hey, Jared!" Evan exclaimed, still holding my hand while he waved. "Hey, Jare," I smiled. He returned the small smile, glancing at our hands, "How are you two love birds? I hear you're getting quite comfortable with one another from a certain Zoe Murphy."
I rolled my eyes, chuckling, "Yeah, sure. I mean, I guess we're kind of warming up." Jared laughed, "I always knew you'd be a good couple together." Zoe gave a suspicious look, speaking up, "Jared, you're acting.... different. You seem happier. Did something happen?"
Jared just smiled a bit more, "Well.... That was actually what I came here for. I heard that Evan and Connor were here hanging out, so I wanted to ask those two on a double date." I raised an eyebrow, "Oh? Who's the lucky girl? Or guy, I won't judge."
Jared took a breath, unable to keep a straight face, "It's.... A-Alana Beck..." Zoe's eyes widened, soon turning into a smirk, "Excuse me for one second..." Zoe walked out of the room, shutting the door and walking a bit down the hallway that's when the three of us boys heard the most ear-piercing squeal I think we have ever heard.
"Oh no..... I think she fan girl exploded...." Evan trailed off, Jared bursting into giggle fits as I stared at the door, mouth agape in confusion. Zoe walked back in, clearing her throat. "So.... Evan, Connor, are you going on the double date with them?" she asked, glaring at us with a look that could kill.
I nodded out of intimidation, Evan nodding as well. Zoe's aura immediately changed as she smiled brightly, "Alright! Jared, when is it?" Jared explained that the double date was tonight, and of course, Zoe asked if she could tag along. Jared tried to deny her offer, but she gave him 'the stare.'
Zoe's glare could turn someone to stone if she really wanted to. That night, Jared, Alana, Evan, and I sat at a booth at Olive Garden. Of course, Zoe sitting in the booth across the aisle from us, intensely staring at us. Jesus, she makes me uncomfortable.
I turned to Evan, seeing him scribbling trees on the kids menu with the provided crayons. Okay, that's just adorable. Of course, Evan and I weren't actually going to eat anything, we just tagged along so that Jared and Alana didn't have to be awkwardly trying to start a conversation. Speaking of which, Jared and Alana chatted about nothing in particular. Evan continued to doodle as I watched, not caring to interfere.
Evan picked up his paper, shoving it in my face. "Look at it," I pulled the paper away from my face, taking in the small details. He wasn't the best artist, but you could definitely tell that it was a tree. "It's a bonsai tree," he smiled. I chuckled, examining the doodle just a bit.
"It's beautiful, Ev." I assured, flashing a smile. He blushed a bit, mumbling, "Not as beautiful as you," Sure, I heard him, but I pretended I didn't, wanting to get him flustered, "What?" "N-Nothing!" he stuttered, face glowing pink. Well, I succeeded at that.
I turned, once again seeing Zoe from across the room, staring at us in all her creepiness. I felt Evan's hand under my chin as he turned my face toward his. I looked down at him and he just smiled, kissing my cheek. "Ew, romance," I heard Jared say from across the table.
I turned to him, giving a look that said, "Seriously?" I then heard Evan speak, "Uh, Jared, you realize you're on a date, right?" Alana laughed as Jared let out a small, "Oh," I snickered, watching Jared kiss Alana's forehead.
"Okay, that's enough heterosexuality for today, I'm bored and I wanna go home," I pouted. Evan smiled, "Okay, Con." I stood up, patting Zoe on the head and then turning to wink at Alana and Jared as I backed away with finger guns. Evan just kind of watched me, giggling a bit.
I drove Evan back to my house and we just laid around the rest of the night. We had been going on a Disney marathon and by the time we got to the eleventh movie, I started to get sleepy. I was nodding off, almost asleep before I heard Zoe shout from behind Evan and I, in perfect sync with the movie, "LET IT GO, LET IT GO, I AM ONE WITH THE WIND AND SKY."
I groaned, turning to see Zoe making some weird gestures with her hands and singing along. Evan was startled, which caused him to jump about three feet in the air. That's when I realized he was snuggled against my side. Zoe chuckled, closing the front door and walking up the stairs.
It's like three in the morning, how the fuck is she just getting back home? I turned back to the movie, returning to my original position. A few more minutes passed and I heard soft, yet heavy breaths sound from beside me.
Evan was already asleep, of course. That means that I get to sleep.... right? Well, I took the chance as I finally drifted to sleep. The next morning, I woke up to the sound of clashing frying pans and Zoe screaming, "WAKE THE FUCK UP,"
....Casual mornings in the Murphy household.
