I heard a small knock at my bedroom door as I shouted, "Come in!" The door opened to reveal Evan. "Hey, Con," he smiled. I chuckled, "Hey, Ev. Did Zoe set something up for you to do?" Evan simply shook his head, walking over and sitting beside me.
"Alright, I'll see if I can find something for us to do. Um, I'll be right back," I said, exiting the room to go find Zoe. Zoe was sitting on the couch, scrolling through instagram on her phone. "Hey, Zo. Why'd you invite Evan over?" I asked, leaning against the wall. "I thought you could spend a little time with him. Y'know, find out what he likes, get closer to him, other shit gay couples-- friends do," she replied, not looking up from her phone.
I sighed, walking back up the stairs and entering my room. I noticed Evan holding my sketchbook, looking through it. I just controlled my breathing, worried he wouldn't like my drawings. He looked up at me, "Con, I didn't know you liked to draw," My face burned red as I stuttered, "I-I, well, u-um," Evan added to his previous statement, "These are beautiful, Connor. I had no idea you had this talent,"
My eyes widened, "I-It's nothing, r-really, I a-am not the b-best a-at--" "Con, calm down. Breathe, it's alright." he said, relaxing his shoulders in attempt to have me follow his actions. I sat next to him and he rubbed my arm. I took a few deep breaths as my breathing went back to normal.
"I was wondering if I could get to know more about you. Zoe said she wanted us to hang out more, that's why she invited you over." I explained. Evan smiled, "I'll tell you some about me if you tell me about yourself. You have so many secrets, Connor. Especially with all these hidden talents."
I just chuckled, "So I guess I can cook, I like baking, I like drawing, my best grade is in creative writing, and I really like video games and Marvel or D.C. movies, comics, and the characters." Evan giggled, "Yeah, I have some comics that I haven't touched in a while," I chuckled, "Yeah, I like keeping up with them and stuff, y'know?"
Evan nodded. I continued, "So, how about you? What do you like?" Evan seemed a little surprised that I was asking about his interests, though we had already agreed we would tell one another about ourselves. "Well um, you know that I have a sixth sense. I don't like being alone, but I like keeping a distance from large groups of people because I get a headache if I'm handling so many feelings at once. I'm pretty good at biology and I love chemistry. It makes me feel like a scientist," he smiled to himself.
I heard a knock at the door, shouting, "Come in!" Zoe walked through the door, leaning against it. "Sab is coming over, so don't bother us. If you need me, I'll be in my room. Also, knock before you come in," she told us. Evan nodded as I shrugged. She flashed a smile before walking back out and closing the door.
I saw Evan keep staring at the door as if Zoe was still there. He really likes her, huh? I snapped my fingers in front of Evan's eyes, forcing him out of his trance. He blinked and looked at me. "You zoned out for a minute there," I said, him giving and expression that said, "Oh," I heard my phone go off in my pocket. I checked it to see that Jared was calling.
After taking a few seconds debating with myself whether or not I should answer it, I answered it. As I brought the phone up to my ear, I heard the familiar voice, "Hey, gay! What's up, I'm bored," I sighed, "Yeah, yeah, I'm with Evan."
"Ohohohhhhhhh, doin' what?"
"Just hanging out,"
"Alright, I'll let you go,"
"Ok-"
"Oh, and keep it PG in there, don't hurt my baby, alright?"
"Okay,"
"'Kay, bai,"
"Bye,"
I turned back to Evan who was now on his phone, playing a game of some sort. I checked the time, realizing that a couple hours had passed since Evan had come over. "You should probably go home, Ev," I pointed out. He looked up from his phone. "Oh, yeah," he said, standing up. I led him to the front door and opened it. "Do you need me to walk you to your car?" I inquired. Evan shook his head, "I'll be fine. Thanks for offering though."
I smiled, "Alright, I'll see you tomorrow, Evan." "You too!" he shouted, closing the door and running to his car. I noticed Sabrina's car in the driveway, knowing that she must've been here for a while.
The next morning, I noticed something... different. My hair was damp for some reason. I stood up, looking in the mirror and almost screaming when I saw. There were several, tiny, deep blue streaks in my hair. I controlled my anger, groaning as I threw my door open.
I walked across the hall, opening Zoe's door to see her sitting on the floor, painting her nails. "Zoe," I said bluntly, hiding my irritation. Zoe looked up, holding back a laugh. "What happened to your hair?" she asked as if she didn't know. I rolled my eyes, "I know you did this,"
She broke out into giggle fits, causing me to smile a bit, clearing me of my anger. I laughed a bit, coughing to cover it up and pretend I didn't laugh. "Oh, come on, you love it. You look very beautiful, Con," she smiled. I laughed a bit, "I always look beautiful."
She rolled her eyes, "Don't get cocky on me now. By the way, you may have those streaks about as long as I had my indigo ones. Uh... that's probably a few months, maybe a year? I don't know, but good luck with that." I groaned, "Whatever, I'll tolerate it. I'll never forgive you, though." She laughed, "Fair deal."
