I sat on the couch, talking to Zoe while Connor picked out a movie. He looked up from the shelf of discs, asking politely, "Evan, are you absolutely positive that you don't have a personal preference in movies?" I smiled, "Con, just pick what you like," Connor sighed, "Okay,"
He picked a movie, inserting it into the DVD player as Zoe caught my attention again, "Soooooo.... When are you and Connor gonna.... go a little further, eh?" She wiggled her eyebrows. I gave her an expression of confusion before realizing what she meant. I shouted, "ZOE," Connor looked up from the TV.
"Evan, are you alright?" he questioned, raising an eyebrow. "Con, save me from your sister," I breathed, flustered. He chuckled, walking back to us. "Alright. Zo, go away," he commanded, Zoe rolling her eyes, "Okay, keep it PG down here. I don't want to hear anything or walk in on you and Ev half naked, alright?"
My face stung, burning like fire. Connor just facepalmed. "Yeah, just get out of here." he grumbled. Zoe shot us finger guns as she backed away, walking up the stairs to get to her room. Connor smiled, "So, I picked the Lorax. I thought you'd like it, because you really like trees."
My face lit up, "Is it ABOUT trees????????" Connor chuckled, face glowing red, "Sort of," He started the movie and I was immediately fascinated. He noticed my expression, laughing, "Ev, it hasn't even gotten to the good part yet." I looked up at him, pouting playfully. He smiled, "You're so adorable." I let out a small, "Hmph,"
I turned back to the movie, watching it intensely. Before I knew it, I was in Connor's arms, leaning my head on his chest, my arms around his waist and his around mine. I don't know how we ended up in this position, but it was comfy. The end credits crossed the screen and I yawned.
Connor looked down at me, pulling me closer. "You tired?" he questioned as I nodded a bit, burying my face in his shirt. I heard him chuckle, "You can sleep. Tomorrow's an 'in-service' day because of exams again. You can sleep in." I nodded, closing my eyes and drifting to sleep.
As I woke up, I noticed Connor still underneath me. I looked up at him and noticed him reading something on his phone. "Morning," he said, not caring to look at me. "Morning," I replied, cupping his cheek and forcing him to look at me. He smiled, pecking my lips before sitting up and pulling me up with him.
"You wanna get up?" he asked. I shook my head. He laughed, "Yeah, well too bad." Connor pushed me off the couch, standing up himself and grabbing his jacket. I groaned, laying on the floor. I heard footsteps come toward us, snickering, "Be nice to your boyfriend, Connor." Connor sighed, holding out his hand to me.
"Come on, shortie." he teased as I took his hand, allowing him to lift me up. Footsteps were heard walking down the stairs. "I think mom's awake," Zoe stated, looking up the stairs and confirming this. Connor and I released hands, stepping away from one another.
~A few days later~
Connor had invited me over for dinner once again, so of course, I came.
"Hey, Evan! How are you?" Mrs. Murphy inquired in a motherly fashion, opening the door. I smiled, "I'm fine, how about you?" She cheerfully replied, "I'm great, sweetheart! I'm so glad that you and Connor get along swell. You know, he doesn't exactly have much of a social life," Zoe added in, "Mom, he doesn't exactly have a life either."
Mrs. Murphy glared at her daughter before grinning at me and walking over to the kitchen to cook the dinner. "If you boys want anything, just ask me." she informed, opening the fridge. Connor pulled out his phone, going back to whatever he was doing before I arrived. Zoe called for me, "Hey Ev, can I dye your hair?"
Connor's head snapped up from his phone, "Zoe, no. You already ruined my hair." Zoe just replied with a "Pfft, you know you like it." Connor knew that he did like it, yet he denied it. I shook my head with a polite, "No thanks, I like my hair as it is." Zoe shrugged, "Eh, your loss."
Zoe sat down at the dinner table as I followed, sitting next to her. Connor ran upstairs, grabbing something. He came back down, sitting down in his chair. He tapped my shoulder to grab my attention. I looked over to him, giving an expectant look.
He handed me a book. Percy Jackson and the Lightening Thief. I looked up at him, "What's this?" He shrugged, "I really liked it, and I thought you'd enjoy reading it. It's about Greek gods and such." I smiled, "Alright, I'll read it. You're a bookworm, huh?" He nodded. I giggled, "I like it."
Mrs. Murphy walked over with food, spreading it out on the table. I glanced at the dinner, nervous to eat anything. Connor sighed, grabbing a plate for me just like before, loading it up with food and placing it in front of me. I took a bite of food, listening to the soft clatter of silverware against plates.
Mr. Murphy soon joined us. Once we had finished eating, he laid some papers in front of us. "Connor," he said, a stern tone in his voice. Zoe and I immediately looked over at Connor and Mr. Murphy. Connor bit his lip, taking the papers and scanning over the first page.
TW: Panic Attack
I watched his eyes widen, him looking up at his father. "What are these, Connor?" Mr. Murphy asked. I saw a flare of anger in Connor's eye, "You went through my emails." I remembered the emails Connor and I had exchanged over the past few nights. Shit, shit, shit. I felt it become harder to breathe as I watched Connor and his father argue.
Why does this always happen whenever Mr. Murphy comes here. He does something that gets Connor riled up and it goes from there. I felt tears in my eyes, my body starting to shake violently. I found it even harder to breathe and I shut my eyes tight, feeling myself hyperventilate. I felt someone grab me, holding me close.
I heard faint talking and yelling, yet it was as if I was at the bottom of a dark ocean. All I could hear was my own breathing and screaming. I felt someone hand me a pill and a bottle of water. I took it, swallowing. My vision returned to normal and I found myself being held by Connor.
I hugged him tightly, him kissing my forehead in return. "Shhhh, it's alright. Calm down, babe." he whispered to me, stroking my hair. I heard Zoe shout at Mr. Murphy, who was also in shock. Mrs. Murphy stood behind Connor and I, making sure I was okay.
I was still shaking a bit, tears still streaming down my face. I buried my face in Connor's jacket. He wiped my tears. Mr. Murphy spoke up, "Connor, are you and Evan dating?" Connor growled, "So what if we are? What are you going to do about it?" Mr. Murphy was dumbfounded, "Connor, I didn't mean to-" "Will you shut up for once?! So what if I'm gay, does that affect the way you treat me-" "Con, please." I interrupted Connor's rant, frowning. Connor saw the pain in my eyes and kissed my forehead, brushing a hand through my hair.
"Babe, I'm so sorry, I don't like you seeing me like this." Connor frowned. I smiled sadly, "It's fine." I gave him a peck and pulled away. He gave a small, subtle smile. The room went silent. It was so silent, you could hear a pin drop.
Connor looked around, his mom and dad gaping. Mrs. Murphy broke into tears, hugging Connor and I. "Evan, thank you so, so, so much. I don't remember the last time I saw Connor smile. You..... You really brought out the better side of my son." she gave a sad smile. Connor's dad frowned, "I'm so sorry. Anyone who can make my son happy makes me happy."
I turned to say something to Mr. Murphy before feeling Connor pull me back into the hug, embracing me even tighter. "Evan, you have no idea how much I love you. I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you. You are the only person I need to be happy. You're my world, babe." he cried. I then realized how much our relationship was worth. He loved me, and I loved him.
Anywhere he goes, I will go too. "Love me, that's all I ask of you." he cooed, kissing my head softly. I took a breath, "I love you, Con." I heard footsteps as the parents left, leaving Connor, Zoe, and I alone.
"You did good, you two."
