Manipulation
People are motivated by progress, mastery, and control. If you want to encourage someone to continue, simply compliment their work, give them an option, or show them how far they've gotten and base your "motivational speech" on the person as an individual (say something along the lines of "you've already gotten so far into it, you might as well get it done with" or "you've just two more days left, give it your best shot").
