Deduction

When people are exiting a room, they tend to close the door more harshly behind them than when entering one. Most people do not allow the door to slam when they are entering rooms unless it's their first time using that door. This helps one figure out whether or not someone has left or entered a room without having to look, or to know if someone is familiar with a certain room or building.
