Amy didn't know what to do anymore.

She didn't leave her room all day, starving herself for no reason at all. So what, if she starved to death, she was going to die anyways.

She sat on her bed and glanced at the scattered books and papers everywhere. She couldn't focus, all she could think about was what happened a few days ago, of what little time she had left.

Amy ran a hand through her hair and puffed out a breath, math normally wasn't a problem for her, but she didn't listen in class so she was going to flunk this assignment badly.

Someone knocked on her door.

She sat up from her resting position and let out a croaked "Come in."

Her moms head popped into the room. "How are you doing?" She asked softly as she closed the door behind her and approached the bed.

"I don't know." Amy said sarcastically. "How do you think I'm doing? After all, I was just told I have a month left to live."

Her mom looked hurt. Amy sighed and rubbed her face with her palm in frustration. "I'm sorry mom, I just. . . I don't even know" she let out tiredly.

Her mom glanced at the uncompleted homeworkers scattered on her bed and wondered why she didn't just use her study table.

"I came to tell you your friend Deborah is here." Her mom said. Amy was confused to why Deborah didn't just come to her room but let the thought pass.

"You haven't told her." Her mom's accusing voice broke the short silence in the room.

Amy froze at her true words and looked everywhere but her. She began picking up her books and papers, neatly placing them in her bag to avoid the question. "Why haven't you told her?"

"I'll tell her mom, I just need time to get over it before I help others get over it as well." Amy answered curtly. Her mom kept shut even though she wanted to say more and began to leave.

Amy put her head in her hands and blinked away the tears in her eyes.

"You don't have to spend it like this."

"What?" Amy asked confused, glancing at her mom. "What do you mean?"

"So what, you have a few days." Her mom said, now by her side. "It doesn't mean you have to waste it moping around in your room." She said. "Use it."

"Are you telling me to do all I've ever wanted to do?" Amy raised her eyebrows in amusement before snorting. "I think that's stupid."

Her mother rolled her eyes. "No." She replied. "I mean, you should go out and be useful." She said. "Make sure you don't leave the world depressed. Stop putting so much thought into it." Her mother sat on the bed and put her arm around her, Amy leaned on her unconsciously.

"I want you to leave this world knowing you did something useful, you achieved something, maybe fall in love. Sure it's just a month, but go out there and find someone who makes you happy."

"Don't trap yourself in here, depression only makes you die faster, find your peace, Amy. You're stronger than this."

Her mom stood and left.

Amy knew she was right and felt stupid. She had never felt more ashamed.

When this happened she thought it was all over. She was wrong.

Even though she couldn't achieve most of what she wants, she can still make a difference in her own way, it doesn't matter how big or small. All she wanted was to be remembered for doing something good. It wasn't over.

She didn't loose, she never did. She still had a chance. And with this little time she had left she could do it. All hope wasn't lost.

It's about time she left this wretched room.

Amy went on her feet and strolled to the door.

As she walked, she kept hearing voices in her head.

They told her to turn back and hide herself under those covers.

They told her there was no point in leaving or doing anything, she was going to die anyways.

They told her to give up.

But she didn't listen and closed the door behind her.

She felt hopeful.
