Amy watched the bright afternoon sun dry the rain of yesterday.

She felt like her whole life was crashing down, but yet, she wanted to make the best of the time she had now.

After school yesterday, she gave her parents the letter. It was a horrible moment. But how else would she expect it to be. Your parents find out that you are going to die in a couple of weeks, of course it wouldn't be a beautiful experience.

The way her heart was beating frantically in her chest as both her parents read through the letter anxiously. Her damp fingers and red flushed cheeks from all the crying and nervous sweating.

After her parents read the letter, it was like time stopped and the only thing she could hear was her moms quiet sobs.

Her little brother that is only five couldn't understand what was going on but knew something was wrong.

The scared and confused expression on his face almost made Amy cry.

Thankfully, at school no one noticed she cried before lunch, because of her applying some heavy makeup after sobering up.

"Amy, it's time to go."

Her father's deep rich voice snapped her out of her thoughts. He gave her a small smile, but she could see the fear he tried to hide behind it.

They were going to the hospital to confirm the test result and get more information about the issue.

They all hoped the letter was false. Loosing a sibling or child is like loosing a part of you, someone so dear to your heart they hold it in the palm of their hands, that place where nothing can replace.

Amy stood and walked towards her father. He placed a hand on the lower part of her back and guided her through the hallway.

His hands felt warm. She thought.

Glancing at her skin, it looked normal. Like there was nothing wrong with her, and she hopped it would remain that way.

It would make lying a lot more easier.

"I'm sorry."

Those two words made Amy uncross her fingers and stare at the doctor wide eyed.

"Is there anything we can do? Any treatment at all?" Amy's mother asked, her voice coming out desperate.

The doctor shook his head and her eyes watered just as her husband held her hand reassuringly, as she tucked a lock of her red hair behind her head.

"How long?" Amy's voice asked, calling the attention of the doctor and her parents, she ignored her parents curios stare and kept speaking. "How long do I have?"

The doctor looked down at some scattered files on his desk for a brief moment before replying. "Possibly something around the range of 37 days."

She nodded in response, seeming calmer than she should be. She didn't know how to react. She had five weeks left, and that's it. No more breathing. . . No more life.

She stared at the air in front of her blankly. A thousand thoughts and questions ran through her mind, she almost felt overwhelmed.

She didn't know what to think, what to do. . . What to feel.

She couldn't feel anything, everything she thought she had, just went down the drain in a matter of seconds, and is never coming back.

Her little brother tapped her arm for her attention, his touch almost felt distant. Like she could feel him touch her, but it wasn't on her skin.

Her mother put the boy on her lap and stroked his hair softly as he rested his head on her chest.

All Amy's senses were distant, her smell, her sight, her touch, sound - everything.

She felt numb.
