Amy was on her bed going through her pictures out of pure boredom.
She scrolled through the countless images as she listened to the music that blasted from her ear phones.
She suddenly received a text message.
It was from Clayton.
Clayton: Hey, are you free today?
Amy was over joyed, she counted a whole one minute in her mind before replying.
Amy: yes, why?
Clayton: I was wondering if you would like to bring Mark over for a play date with Zoe. She hasn't stopped talking about him
Amy's eyebrows rose and she sat up from her position.
Amy: didn't they see each other just yesterday?
Clayton: ugh! Fine, you caught me. I just really want to see you again
Amy felt a blush rise on her cheeks and she squealed excitedly.
If your crush says he misses you, that's a good sign right?
Amy: fine. I'll be there in 20 minutes
Clayton: waiting
Amy turned off her phone and rose to her feet.
She ran into her closet and put on anything she could find. She let her red hair out of the messy ponytail and tried using her hands to make it look presentable.
Amy ran out of her room and down to the kitchen were she could hear her brother talking to her mom.
She walked into the kitchen and over to her brother, "we're going out, go put on some shoes."
Her brother looked at her with a blank expression on his face, "didn't we go out yesterday?" He asked and Amy rolled her eyes.
"Yes, now we are going out again today," when Mark still didn't move Amy couldn't help but sigh. "We're going to see Zoe."
Mark immediately perked up.
He hopped off the chair and raced to the exit, "be right back!" He yelled as he rushed out of the kitchen.
Amy's mom smiled warmly, "it feels good to finally see you two spend more time together. Especially at these times," her mom said.
"Amy's only taking me out so she can see her boyfriend," Mark sang teasingly as he came into the room with his sneakers on and laces untied.
Amy's mom looked at her with raised eyebrows, "boyfriend? When did this happen?" She was overjoyed to hear Amy has a boyfriend.
She felt happy her daughter was living normally and not letting her sickness pull her down.
Amy rolled her eyes, "Clayton is not my boyfriend," Amy said giving her brother a glare, "and I'm just going to take Mark to a play date, that's all."
"Without telling me?" Her mom said.
Amy almost face palmed herself.
Right...
"Sorry," Amy blushed.
Her mom shook her head at her with a laugh, "I don't have a problem with you leaving Amy, but Mark..."
"Mommy please! I really want to see Zoe! She's my new friend and she actually thinks my eyes are cool," Mark begged.
Their mother sighed and nodded, Amy and Mark let out a 'yes' and fist bumped their victory. "But be back before dinner," their mom instructed.
Amy nodded, leading her brother out of the kitchen, "sure mom!"
As they walked to the front door Mark stumbled but Amy was able to catch him in time. She looked down at his untied shoe laces and sighed.
"Can you help me?" Mark asked with a pout.
Amy rolled her eyes and squatted down to reach his small legs, "stay still," she muttered and knotted the laces for both legs. She looked at her piece of art and smiled in content as they stepped out of the front door.
She felt accomplished.
