She slipped on her clothes and shoes after applying on make up and styling her long red locks.
She stared at her reflection satisfied.
It's today, finally.
The time is already 5:30 and Clayton is picking her up at 6 for their date. She made sure she was ready early.
This day was the day she'd tell him.
Amy walked down the stairs of her home and into the kitchen.
Her mom stared at her with a small smile.
"You look beautiful honey," her mother said and Amy blushed.
The mother was happy about Amy not letting the disease hold her back from living her life and she was dying to meet this boy who seemed to keep a smile on her little girl's face.
"Thanks momma," Amy replied and sat beside her mother on a kitchen stool.
The both of them conversed before Clayton showed up and took Amy away for their date.
-
The night was going great.
Clayton had been a gentle man all through and was incredibly sweet, greeting her with a bouquet of flowers on her door step.
Clayton took them both to a fancy resturant in their town. Amy was beyond flattered.
Their date was full of laughs, smiles and cute gestures.
It was like a fantasy for Amy, but she knew she had to break the news sooner or later.
They were both eating their desserts, Clayton just finished telling Amy a childhood story and she felt it was the perfect timing since they were both silent.
She cleared her throat, causing him to look up at her.
"Are you okay?" He asked, looking concerned and Amy's heart fluttered.
"I'm fine Clay, I just - I want to tell you something," Amy said, a small hesitant smile gracing her red, coloured lips.
"What?" Clayton asked, getting a bit confused and uneasy by the nervous look on her face.
"I know I should have told you earlier, and please don't get mad at me, but I..."
"You what Amy?"
"I-"
Before Amy could keep speaking she was interrupted by the loud sound of rap music killing the silence in the resturant.
She quickly fetched the phone out of her purse and answered the call to stop the music.
Amy blushed at the number of eyes now on her.
She forgot to put her phone on silent before the date and wanted to hit herself for it.
Amy gave Clayton an apologetic look then placed the phone near her ear.
"Hello?" She said.
"Hello? Amy?" Dustin's worried voice said from the phone. Amy's eyebrows creased in confusion and she felt her heart rate increase rapidly.
"What's wrong Dustin?" She asked quickly.
She could hear his fast breathing, "it's Deborah," her heart dropped, "she - she tried to kill herself."
Amy almost dropped the phone in shock, a gasp leaving her lips and her eyes wide.
Clayton noticed this and asked what was wrong but she ignored him as Dustin kept speaking.
"I-it's all my f-fault Amy," Dustin said and she could hear his loud sobs. "She's dying all b-because of me."
Amy immediately sprung to her feet, "I'm on my way. Text me the hospital name and address," she said and cut the call.
Clayton stood from his seat as well, "is everything okay? What's going on?"
Amy couldn't stop the tears from brimming her eyes.
"I-it's my friend. She tried suicide."
Clayton's eyes widened but he knew better than to ask any more questions, "I'll drive you, let's go," he said, keeping Amy close to him for comfort.
He paid the bill and they were out of the resturant in seconds, on their way to the hospital.
She felt anxious.
