«•••••••»

Amy glanced at her best friend that placed her head in her hands, frustrated. "I don't know why he's acting like this."

"Do you think someone really overheard us and told him?" Amy asked. Deborah winced at the thought and tried to calm her beating heart.

"I hope not." Deborah said weakly. "I really hope not."

The bell finally rang and Dustin sprinted out of his seat. Deborah ran after him.

Amy picked up her things and tried to catch up but they both were fast runners so she didn't really get that far and ended up panting in the middle of the hallway.

Amy ignored the shocked looks from the students around her and leaned on the wall for support, she closed her eyes and tried to catch her breath.

The doctor said she should avoid things like this. She opened her eyes and stared at the front of her, breathless. A hand touched her shoulder.

"Amy, can I talk to you?" A voice asked, she turned and found Lisa beside her. Amy tried to speak but only a squeak left her mouth. "Are you okay?"

Amy couldn't breathe, all the air was knocked out of her. She felt her face turn purple, and her hands shook. Amy let out coughs, desperate for air. She wished she brought her inhaler.

Lisa put Amy's hand around her shoulder and walked her to the nurses office. "You better not faint." Lisa said with a glare. "You're too big for me to carry."

Amy ran too fast, faster than she was capable of. She had asthma and she knew it, running wasn't something she was meant to do.

So why the hell did she do that?

-

"Thank you." Amy said with a smile aimed at Lisa. Lisa was Dustin's girlfriend.

"Don't sweat it." Lisa replied with a smile, she sat next to Amy on a bench close to the entrance of the school. "I wanted to speak to you."

Amy glanced at her after taking a sip from her bottle of water. "About what?" Amy asked.

"I overheard you and Deborah talking in the locker room" Lisa said. Amy's palms suddenly turned sweaty, she knew exactly where this was going. "Is it really true that Deborah is in love with Dustin?"

Amy's tongue suddenly tasted sour. She felt annoyed. That sentence annoyed her, she hated the way Deborah felt about Dustin. Those feeling are what keep tearing Deborah apart every day.

"You heard it didn't you?" Amy snapped in defeat. "Now you know the truth," Amy crossed her arms over her chest and turned to Lisa. "But did you really have to tell him?"

"How did you know?" Lisa asked. Amy rolled her eyes.

"Didn't you notice the way he has been acting all day?" Amy snapped.

"Oh."

"You know." Amy said. "Even though you knew, the least you could have done was keep it to yourself, not destroy a life time of friendship because you couldn't keep your big mouth shut."

"I - I'm sorry." Lisa stammered. She looked down at her feet in regret. "I wasn't thinking, I panicked. I didn't know what to do - I'm really sorry."

You didn't know what to do, yet you ended up telling him. Amy thought. "I'm not the one you should apologize to."

Amy picked up her bag and left, when she turned back she found Lisa on her phone. Possibly texting Dustin. She thought.

-

"Mom." Amy called, her mother hummed in response. "Deborah isn't answering any of my calls or text messages. I'm scared."

"I'm sure she'll be fine, she's a strong girl." Her mom replied.

Amy bit her lip and considered calling again but decided against it. Maybe her mom was right, Deborah is a strong girl. She'll be fine.

Amy walked into her room and glanced at her calendar with a smile. She should stop counting her days.

Her eyes went to her phone she just tossed to her bed. Maybe Deborah was fine, but shouldn't she just call her one last time - no - let it go, she's fine.

Amy peeled her eyes away from her phone and clutched her twitching fingers to fists.

She felt hesitant.
