difficult to answer

I was a suburban-raised boy.

I grew up on fields upon fields of land, provided with cheap education and home-cooked meals.

I never understood the point of fast food until I was maybe eight years old. that may have resulted in me gaining a couple pounds after that breakthrough.

I thought about these things after kihyun asked the first personal question since I had met him. well, it wasn't personal per say, but heavily regarded my past. though, two weeks had already passed, in his defense, but still had me stumbling for words.

right before I touched the doorknob of my house, I heard three solid bangs against a wooden surface from my left. I peeked over to kihyun's house, where I witnessed kihyun resting his head on his front door.

I smiled to myself.

kihyun visibly sighed, then looked at me.

there was a mutual understanding of the situation, and so I invited him in.

and so there we were, in my room with a plate of cookies my aunt insisted on making for us.

we both lay on our backs on the carpet, nibbling away at the treats. the topic of school droned on, until after a second of silence, kihyun broke it.

"so, why'd you move into the area?"

I didn't know why I found it so difficult to answer.

Im Changkyun, a boy who wished to venture farther than his farm, but was granted the dream in an unfortunate way.

the first step he took into his relatives' house, he wanted to go back in time without a single doubt. he wanted his parents back. he didn't care if it meant going back to Richardsville High School.

but after meeting kihyun, he couldn't state that so confidently anymore.
