"H-Holy...!"

The black haired woman at the door gaped at your friendly neighborhood America waving from the kitchen.

I gave a weak smile. "This is my friend, Carter." I beckoned at my friend.

"M-Mister United States... it's a pleasure," She stuttered out quickly.

The blond grinned back in a rather goofy way. "Just America is fine, I've never really been for formalities, you know."

"A-America, then..." Carter continued to stare ahead, almost looking as if she were about to drop the groceries. I sighed, quickly taking the bags and gently pressing three ten dollar bills into her hand. I walked over to the table and set the bags down. At this point, she seemed to come back to herself. "So... you really are America, then...?"

The man gave another toothy grin. "The land of the free and the home of the brave."

Carter smirked. "I see the connection now." She turned to follow me towards the kitchen to make patties.

The woman was a year older than me, same graduating class. Despite the slight age gap (it really wasn't that large), we got along awfully well. Carter was definitely more of an optimist than myself, something that I often needed in my day to day life. She wasn't without her flaws, though. Despite being rather pretty, she was... incredibly outspoken, sometimes to the point of making other people somewhat uncomfortable. I did my best to console her... and she had definitely gotten better in that regard. Still, she was definitely someone I cared about deeply.

I turned to plug in the portable grill for be friend. As Carter began to grill the meat, she hummed "So, America... what are you doing in Brookesburg...?" I could hear her voice carrying a slightly nervous tone. I gave her a small smile of reassurance.

"Just visiting my new employee," America hummed, glancing at his smartphone. "That's what a good employee does, right...?"

Carter mouthed 'employee' to herself, her posture tensing up. I froze. The woman turned to me, looking as if she were about to slam me into a wall. "Why didn't you tell me?!"

I started to tremble a little reflexively. Great... "I-I didn't tell anyone yet! I was haven't had much time, I had to drive all the way to the World Summit and-"

"So you were working with all of them?!"

I realized my fatal mistake. Carter hissed. "I swear, girl!"

"Woah woah woah..." America but in. "She was in the hospital! She's not ly-"

Carter let out a small cry as something grabbed her attention. The scent of something grabbed mine. I turned to the grill, biting my lip. The girl stared at the burgers as America made a whining sound.

Suddenly, Carter fell to her knees. "I...I'm so sorry, America! I'll make you another batch...!"

I bit my lip. "Carter... it's no big deal, really. We can just make more."

Carter just sniffled. Well... she was always a dramatic one.
