Chapter 4

Fast forward to summer vacations, Renata's eyes glowed amber most of the time, since she was constantly using her powers for one thing or the other. Living in a house full of vampires, it was kind of a must. As time went by, Renata grew closer to the family, except Alice, who was really frustrated that could not see anything that involved Renata specifically. Rosalie was the one she got along the most, followed by Emmet and Edward and then Jasper, who avoided Renata to avoid the smell of her blood. She got really well with Esme and Carlisle too, but they were more parent figures for her.

"Renata!" She heard Emmet call.

"What?"

"How old are you?" He asked from her room, she had no idea what he was doing there.

"Seventeen, why?" Renata walked into her room to see Emmet, Rosalie and Edward going through her photos.

"Cause this photo of you has a date written in it and you weren't even born in 1987" Emmet said, looking at the picture again. And trying to see if the date was not wrong.

"Let me see that" Renata took the photo from his hand. It was a black and white picture of a girl 20 years old tops. She was smiling, looking away from the camera, her hair just reaching her neck, "this is not me, you idiot" she laughed and put the photo softly with the others, "that's my mom, you dimwit" Renata said and laughed, hitting Emmet across the head.

"You are like a photocopy of her" Rosalie told the girl she had grown to care like a little sister.

"Thanks, that's really nice of you" Renata told Rosalie and smiled widely at her.

"Hey, I invited Bella over-" Edward started but as soon as he did, Renata started gathering her things at an amazing speed, she had become faster gradually, if you wanted to run with vampires, you had to keep up with them.

"That's my cue to leave, she said as soon as she had everything she needed to go to Emily's for the night, since she really didn't like to come home to a house that smelled like Bella, her smell was somewhat nauseating to Renata, and she didn't know why.

"You're gonna have to meet her sooner or later" Edward told the small girl, walking up to her.

"I would rather it be later" Renata told him, looking up at him in the eyes. They held a staring competition they had silently agreed on. After a couple minutes of both of them not looking away, Edward looked away in defeat.

"I'll walk you to the treaty line" Emmet said and stood up.

"Bye Rose, bye Edward. I'll be back tomorrow!" Renata yelled as she walked out the house through her room, that had a window to the forest behind the house.

"Race you there" Emmet said and Renata smirked.

"You're on" Renata said and they both sprinted forwards.

Even if Emmet was a vampire, he wasn't as fast as Alice or Edward so it was fairly easy for Renata to keep up with him without much effort. Nearing the treaty line, Emmet slowed down a bit, since he didn't want to cross by accident, Renata, on the other hand, sped up as she prepared to cross the treaty line. She jumped and landed on the wolves' territory.

"Bye Emmet!" She yelled as she turned to look at him. She waved and he waved back. Emmet waited until she was out of sight to run back home.

Renata walked in the forest wearing her Adidas tenis shoes, black leggings and a light blue knitted jumper with two strands of hair that usually fell to her face pinned back with bobby pins. She heard ruffling near her and she knew either Sam, Jared or Paul had smelled her and went to check on her. She was about to link their minds when she heard ruffling to the opposite side, but this time she didn't smell the wolves. She didn't recognise this particular smell.

"Who's there?" Renata called and from behind a tree came a boy, around her age or a little younger.

He was part of the Quilete's, he had bronze skin, long black hair and dark brown eyes. He wasn't a wolf, that much Renata could tell, but she sensed he had the potential to be one.

"Hey, sorry if I scared you" the boy said, smiling at her and reaching behind his head with one arm.

"Don't worry about it" Renata said, smiling at him shyly. She was never one to make friends or to talk to strangers, she was really shy around new people.

"I'm Jacob, by the way, Jacob Black" The boy said, extending his arm.

He is Billy Black's son, he doesn't know, Renata heard Sam's voice in her head. Renata had met Billy during her first week in Forks.

"I'm Renata" the girl said and shook his hand.

"What are you doing here?" Jacob asked.

"Uhm, hiking" Renata lied.

"Wearing those?" Jacob pointed down at her Adidas.

"I never said it was the best decision I've made" Renata raised her hands in surrender and they both laughed. Renata heard growling from behind, she knew it was Paul, he had learned to trust her but he still didn't trust completely in her and he was always going on about 'what if she tells someone?'

Sam, get them out of here, I'm going to distract Jacob. Renata thought, knowing Sam had heard.

See you, Ren! Jared called excitedly, he was really cute, kind of like a puppy.

Oh, Sam, I'll be staying at your place tonight, Edward invited Bella over. Renata let the man know as she remembered why she was originally there for.

"Hey, Jacob, do you mind showing me the First Beach? I've been living here for a month and hadn't had time to go" Renata told the boy, who smiled, nodded and dramatically offered her his arm.

"If you would, my lady?" Jacob said and Renata laughed.

"You're weird" Renata told the boy and chuckled.

"Is weird bad?"

"No, I love weird" Renata said casually, without noticing the real impact it had in Jacob. Perhaps moving on from Bella wouldn't be such a bad idea...

"Hey, do you mind if we stop at my house for my bike?" Jacob asked her and she shook her head, "Sue Clearwater and her kids are there, I hope you don't mind"

"No, of course not" Renata said just before twisting her ankle and falling, "every single damn time" she muttered through gritted teeth.

"Are you Okay?" Jacob asked the girl, whom he was looking closely for the first time.

Jacob looked at Renata, she was about a head shorter than him, with short maroon hair, he could tell that was not her natural colour because the roots of her hair were already dark chestnut. She had a roundish face with bright brown eyes and a contagious smile. Renata was not thin but looked really good, Jacob could see she was muscly and he liked that, she wasn't afraid to appear strong. He had a hard time imagining her indifferent or angry. Jacob couldn't help but think she was the complete opposite to Bella.

"Yeah, don't worry" Renata said and ignored Jacob's hand as she tried to stand up. It went okay until she tried to put weight on her twisted ankle, "-ta madre!" Renata exclaimed as she felt the pain.

"Here, Renata, hop on my back" Jacob said and crunched down for her to hop on.

"Jacob, I'm gonna crush you down. I'm really heavy" Renata said, using a skinny tree trunk for support.

"Renata, I'm going to carry you"

"No you are not"
