"Would you like to come over tomorrow? My dad's making pasta and Quill and Embry are coming" Jacob told me and Renata smiled.
"Yeah, I'd like to, actually, I was thinking of passing by. I made blueberry muffins and saved a batch for you and you dad." Renata told him over te phone and she could feel him smiling over the phone.
"You didn't have to, but thanks" he said and Renata smiled.
"Do you need me to bring something else?" Renata asked him.
"Don't worry, Renata. Your presence is more than enough for me" Jacob said and she blushed.
No one had ever treated Renata the way he did, if she didn't know better, she would think that he was just pranking her. Growing up, Renata was always the chubbier kid and she always saw herself as less than average when it came to beauty. Even if many people told her she was the image of her mother, and she could actually see the resemblance between the two, all the details and features she found beautiful in her mother, she couldn't find them in herself. When she was young, it was okay, because at the age of five, kids don't judge based on appearance, just on how well you play, however, give it a couple years to those same children and it will change, they will start to listen to how important appearances are and unconsciously making comparisons between what they see in their daily life to what they now know about beauty and what others say. Renata didn't see anything off with her at first, she felt good enough, that is, until she saw how differently boys treated her friends to how they treated her. She must have been twelve years old at the time. From that moment it had been a constant struggle between her mind and herself, if that makes any sense at all. From one side, it was her mind telling her that she was not pretty enough, not skinny enough, not rich enough. On the other side, she told herself that beauty standards didn't define her but it was hard when she started to see how boys doted on her friends, flirted with them and complimented them, while Renata had only been the "best friend" type. Boys often teased one another telling her that they liked her, or telling one another that Renata was their girlfriend, that they'd end up with her. She never knew why. Why was it so bad to end up with her?
It was not until she was about to turn seventeen that Rodrigo and René sat her down and talked to her. From that talk onwards, Renata tried to see herself in a more positive light and try to accept herself the way she was, telling herself she was worth it each morning. But still, even with all the changes Renata has had, it felt strange to be treated the way Jacob did.
"I'll see you tomorrow, Jake" Renata said and smiled, just thinking of him.
"I'll be waiting you" Jacob said and Renata waited until Jacob hung up, but he didn't, "you can hung up now, Ren"
"'Kay, love you" she said and hung up. Just then did it hit her, "fuck!" She exclaimed and facepalmed several times.
Renata entered again and found the guys washing the dishes. She sat down next to Sam and continued eating.
"Everything okay?" Sam asked her concerned.
"No" Renata told him, rolling her eyes and banging her head in the table.
"What happened?"
"You hace super hearing, Sam. You know what happened" Renata's voice came muffled by the table but Sam still heard her. He rubbed her back affectionately.
"Have you considered that he might actually be your imprint?" Sam asked. Suddenly, everyone was paying attention.
"I don't have an imprint, Sam. Well, technically, I do, but it has to be reciprocal, so it has to be a shifter that has an imprint on me. We will not know until he shifts" Renata told him, "and even if he does, I don't think I'm his imprint. Damn, I wouldn't be surprised if Bella was" Renata was exasperated by now, because she was aware that she felt something for him, but it was very likely that he either did not feel the same way or even if he did, she might not be his imprint.
"You don't even know if he will shift" Renata heard Paul's voice.
"He has to, he has alpha blood" Jared started.
"No, Jared, Paul is right. Alpha lineage or not, it is possible that he never shifts. Not even I know who will shift" Renata told him without looking at him and he nodded.
"Renata, vamos afuera" It was Claudio who talked. Renata looked at her brother and nodded.
They walked out and Claudio shifted. Renata could sense that he was trying to tell her something, but Renata could no longer hear him, because she was not his shaman anymore.
"No te puedo oír, Clau" Renata told the giant jaguar, "sígueme" Renata said and sprinted into a run.
Renata took Claudio to the border between the Cullen's and the Quiletes. A small stream went through and Renata decided that it was far away from both, vampires and shifters, they could talk privately there.
Claudio shifted back and Renata waited until he put some pants one to jump to his arms and hug him tight. Just like the pack and her other brothers, Claudio towered over her by almost a complete foot. They sat down and refreshed their feet on the cool stream water.
"¿Me lo vas a enseñar?" Claudio asked suddenly.
"¿El qué?" Renata asked confused.
"Tu tatuaje, loca. Vi que Sam y los demás lo tenían, tu también has de tener" Claudio told her and she nodded. Renata pulled her shirt up enough for him to see the ink above her ribs, "me gusta, pero no más que el nuestro" Claudio said, flexing his muscle and showing off his bicep and Renata laughed.
"¿Cómo están todos?" Renata asked her brother seriously.
"Es difícil. Mamá todavía no se acostumbra a que no estén" he told his little sister and she nodded.
Pero si necesitas ayuda o algo pasa, quiero que me llames y vendré corriendo" Claudio trusted that his sister was telling the truth, because she did look better than when she left, he saw the way the pack and her interacted with each other and was happy that his little sister was able to find people that made her happy and helped her get better.
"Te quiero, Clau" Renata told her brother and hugged him.
"Yo te quiero más, Rana." Claudio told his sister with affection.
Truth be told, Claudio missed his sister more than he could admit, and leaving her by his own foot would be probably the hardest thing he would do. Claudio admitted only to himself that he wished Renata was not okay and that he had to take her home so he could take care of her. But he could never tell her that. He knew that his sister would be miserable if he took her back now that she had found her place.
