Chapter 22

All week, after school. Renata went to the Clearwater's to show Leah new meditations that would let her control how to activate her powers. She couldn't teach her more until she was in control of when to use them.

"It's not working, Renata, you say I have to keep my mind clear to focus on by breathing but I can't, there are just to many distractions" Leah huffed and laid down in the floor of her room.

"That's okay, we'll keep working on it. I'll think about something, I'll see you tomorrow, okay?" Renata told Leah as she took her bag from the bed.

"You're leaving?" Leah asked, "it's only five!" The Quileute girl exclaimed, Renata had been staying until around eight to practice, and today she had only been around for an hour and a half, and half of that hour was them trying to bake cookies.

"Sorry, nena, I have dinner at the Black's. Just keep practicing and I'll come tomorrow" Renata told her in a hurry, she kissed Leah's forehead and rushed to the door, "and remember to take your tea!" Renata yelled as she left the house.

Renata had made an infusion from Macpalxóchitl and Flor de Tila to calm Leah down and try to avoid sudden outbursts of power while she was learning to control them and also to help her sleep.

Renata ran to Jacob's house at a normal human pace, since there were some people around. Believe it or not, running at a human pace was rather tiring for Renata, since she had to really make an effort to not use her powers and the human pace took longer. Once there, Renata was actually sweating, hair sticked to her face. She knocked on the door and waited for someone to open. After a couple minutes, Jacob opened and smiled widely when he saw Renata. He hugged her and realised how warm she was, he was used to her being warm but this was a different type of warm, it was kind of humid.

"You're sweaty" Jacob pointed out.

"I know, I ran all the way from Leah's place. I hadn't realised the time" Renata told him as they entered the house, "can I wash my face in your bathroom, and could you lend me a shirt?" She asked with puppy eyes.

"Take a shower, I'll leave you a shirt in my bed. Embry and Quil are coming so I'll lock the door" Jacob told her and leaned down to kiss her 

"Have I told you lately how kind you are?" Renata asked him, hugging him from the waist and standing on her toes to kiss his cheek.

"Come on, I'll give you a towel" Jacob said and took her to his room and gave her a clean fluffy towel, "just don't fall in the shower, okay?"

"And have you come in and see me naked? Hell no" Renata told him and he laughed, leaving her to shower.

Soon enough, Embry and Quil arrived, Billy asked them if they weren't wanted at home, since they were always there. They both answered that perhaps that was the reason. Then, the boys started teasing Jacob about finally asking Renata to be his girlfriend.

"Jake!" Renata yelled from the bathroom, Embry and Quil wiggled their eyebrows at them, "Jake!" Renata yelled again. She had opened the shower and no matter how she turned it, the water was freezing cold. She was shivering from head to toe. Jacob ran to his room, what if she had actually fallen?

"Renata? Are you okay, loca? Did you fall?" Jacob teased from outside the bathroom door.

"N-no, the water is f-f-freezing!" Renata yelled at him, Jacob laughed and shook his head, Renata knew he hadn't moved or done anything to reverse it, "¡No te quedes ahí paradote! ¡HAZ ALGO!"

"Sorry, I forgot to warn you, we're out of hot water, we were going to refill the gas tank tomorrow" Jacob told her scratching the back of his neck.

"When I come out, ¡vas a ver cómo te va! ¡me voy a vengar! Un día vas a despertar en la playa en invierno" Renata warned him as she tried to wash her head as quickly as possible, trying to avoid the freezing water from touching her back. Renata closed the water taps and wrapped herself in the towel Jacob gave her, "you better at least have a hair dryer, Jacob Black" Renata told him.

Embry and Quil decided fo see what was taking Jacob so long and why Renata was yelling in Spanish. They peaked through the door and saw Jacob leaning on the wall laughing to himself about his little psycho girlfriend. Jacob sat with his back to the door, shaking his head and laughing to himself, he hadn't noticed Embry and Quil standing there. Jacob fell back as the door opened behind him. He hurried himself to his feet and walked back with his hands raised in surrender. A hair brush flew at him, as well as the hand towel, a bottle of moisturizer and Renata's sweaty sweatshirt she had been wearing. Renata emerged from the bathroom holding the towel tightly around her body.

"I'm sorry, Ren!" Jacob exclaimed, dodging whatever Renata threw at him.

"Yeah, I'm gonna show you sorry!" Renata told him threateningly. Embry and Quil watched the scene in front of them and couldn't help but laugh, that's when Renata turned to look at him with a fire in her eyes they couldn't quite describe, the only thing they knew was that they feared for their lives, "¿y ustedes qué hacen ahí parados?" Renata yelled at them, "¡Se me salen! ¡como van! ¡afuera!, out!" Renata yelled at them as she threw a cushion at them, then the console's remote.

"Hey! Get out, she needs to change!" Jacob told them as he stood between them and Renata, covering her with his body. The two other boys didn't need to be told twice, Renata alone was scary enough for them to leave the room.

"¿y tú por qué sigues aquí? Pa' afuera te me vas" Embry and Quil heard Renata tell Jacob in her angry Latina voice they couldn't understand, only fear. Jacob left the room as a shoe flew at his head, and then the door slammed. Billy arrived from the living room to see what all the commotion was about. He saw all three boys with faces as if they had just seen a ghost, mouths open and eyes as plates.

"What did you do now?" Billy asked them and laughed at their faces.

"I'm sure I'll be killed if I tell you" Jacob said without taking his eyes off the door of his room. Embry and Quil nodded too.

"She's got a strong arm" Embry said simply.

"And a hell of an aim too" Quil added, rubbing the middle of his forehead, where the console's control landed.

"She's great" Jacob said finally. Renata got out of Jacob's room, in a black shirt of his and her own yoga pants, she glared at her boyfriend, wondering if he told them, "I didn't say anything, I swear" Jacob put his arms up in surrender.

"Is the table set?" Renata asked the three boys and they looked at one another with fear and confusion, "then what are you doing standing there?" The three boys hurried to the table and set it, while Renata and Billy walked calmly.

"I need to know your secret, Renata, I couldn't ever make them do that unless Sue is here" Billy asked and laughed.

"I honestly don't know, Billy. Heritage, perhaps?" Renata laughed.

"I'm sure it is, Renata, I'm sure it is"
