Chapter 14

Renata ran to the Cullen's house and opened the garage, seeing Edward's bright silver volvo made her smile. It was a nice car. They hadn't let her drive since she was in Forks, so she would really enjoy it. Inside the car was one of Alice's silk scarves and Rosalie's sunglasses, which's she would probably need. She entered the car and put the keys in the ignition. The motor was soft and she smiled at the sound.

Renata got out of the garage carefully and then sped up down the forest trail. Halfway through the path, the sun hit her square in the eyes, so she stopped the car and wrapped one of Alice' scarves around her head and put on Rosalie's sunglasses. After fixing her hair to look less like a rat's nest, she started the car again and drove all the way to Bella' house. Renata parked outside and texted Edward.

To: Edward
I'm outside. Hurry.

Ten minutes passed and Edward was still nowhere to be seen, so the Mexican girl decided to honk the car five consecutive times, and then two more, a rhythm any Mexican understood as a mentada de madre. Hopefully it didn't mean the same in the United States. After a couple minutes, the door opened but it was not Edward, but Charlie Swann, the police chief.

"Can I help you?" He asked, he had his rifle in his hand. Renata got out of the car and smiled at the man.

"Hello, Chief Swann, I suppose" Renata said and got closer, taking off her glasses. 

"Are you one of the Cullen's kids?" Charlie asked her.

"Kind of, I'm Renata, I'm Carlisle's youngest half-sister." Renata smiled and got closed, extending her hand at Charlie.

"Nice to meet you" Charlie said and forced his lips into a smile, "uh- why are you here?"

"I'm here to pick up Edward. Carlisle told me he was here" Renata told him and Charlie frowned.

"Come inside, there is pizza in the kitchen table, help yourself" Charlie walked quickly inside and walked to the second floor.

Renata walked inside to the kitchen, and opened the pizza box, there was half a pepperoni pizza inside. She took a plate and two big slices of pizza. Renata could listen to Charlie pacing around and growling under his breath. As far as Renata knew, Bella and Edward were not in the house, she could not smell then or listen to them. No wonder Charlie was angry. Renata heard Charlie come back down as she was finishing her second slice.

"They are not here, neither of them" Charlie said, huffed and threw himself into the couch.

"Does Bella's phone have a GPS?" Renata inquired.

"Yeah but it doesn't work"

"Don't worry, c'mon, let's find them" Renata took the her car keys from the table and put on the sunglasses back again.

Charlie looked at her quizzically first but seeing her determination, he quickly followed her. Renata got in the car and asked for Bella's number and dialed it on her phone, and connecting it to the car. On the screen display, a map of forks appeared, and then the screen city in the map got smaller, and pinpointed a place about five kilometers into the forest. Renata squinted her eyes as she recognized the spot, it was where Jacob had taken her weeks ago.

"That thing works?" Charlie asked, pointing at the screen.

"Yeah, they seem to be in the forest. Any ideas as of why?" Renata asked him without taking her eyes off the road and speeding up.

"Why are you going so fast? That's way over the speed limit!" Charlie was holding on for dear life to the seat and the roof.

"You want to find your daughter?" Renata asked calmly.

"Of course I do"

"I texted Edward as soon as I got to your house and if he sees it before we get there, they'll be gone and they will go to your house and pretend we're crazy"

"How do you know that?" Charlie asked her.

"I know Edward" Renata answered simply.

Renata and Charlie used the car to go as far as the woods let them and walked the rest of the way. Renata took the sunglasses, her phone and her bag with her, the place was really alone and she didn't want to leave anything important in case someone saw the car just chilling there. They walked in comfortable silence for a while before Renata started walking on roots and jumping rocks, however, for being a human with supernatural abilities, Renata was pretty dumb and she ended up bending her ankle again.

"Well, let me tell you, those aren't the best shoes to hike on" Charlie commented as he helped Renata up and supported her weight on his shoulder. Renata looked down to see her shoes, the same ones she had been using when she met Jacob, and sighed.

"Yeah, I've been told but in my defense, I didn't even know I'd be hicking today" Renata told him as she limped.

"That's a good point"

"Wait, I think I've got some bandages in my bag for situations like this" Renata remembered Sam lecturing her on having bandages always with her because it was fairly common for her to get hurt somehow. She couldn't use her powers to heal, Charlie would notice, so an old fashioned bandage would have to do for now.

"Let me" Charlie said as he saw Renata wincing when she tried to take her shoe off.

"You don't have to"

"Don't worry, besides, I'll do it faster than you anyways" Charlie said. He was right, though, he was fairly fast while bandaging her ankle, he must have experience with the woods and people hurting themselves. He helped Renata stand and she tried to walk, "better?"

"It's bearable, I think I can walk" Renata said and they both walked, chatting about many things but nothing in particular, Renata found out that she liked Charlie fairly well.

They got to the clear to see Edward checking his phone and telling Bella they had to go. Edward was so worried and busy with Bella that he didn't notice them arriving.

"And where exactly do you think you are going, Edward, darling?" Renata said with a charming voice that could only mean one thing: trouble.

Renata took off the sunglasses and turned on her powers to listen to what they were muttering.

"Who is she? And why is she with my dad?" Bella asked Edward. Before Edward could answer, Renata did herself.

"Hello, Bella, I don't think we've been introduced, I'm Carlisle's sister" lied Renata, almost yelling from where she and Charlie were standing.

Edward send Renata a nasty look, he knew she was using her powers to eavesdrop. Renata thought that if he didn't want her to eavesdrop, they should get over where Charlie and her were. Edward told Bella they should go to them and start explaining Charlie why they had sneaked out, he didn't show it much but Charlie was furious about Bella sneaking out with Edward, he would have probably given her permission if she had just asked but she didn't and now he was pissed. Just as they were getting closer to them, Renata decided to put the sunglasses back on because of the white light coming through the clouds, it hurt her eyes, however, Bella didn't know that, the only thing Bella saw and therefore knew, were two golden eyes being hidden from her with the glasses and she was sure Renata had heard her mutter to Edward. Bella worried, was this girl a vampire? Why did she call Edward "darling"?
