Hello hijos, I hope you missed me because I missed you.
Enjoy
At lunch, Renata was called to the main office, where the sub principal calmly told her that given the situation, they would have to expel her. She was really kind and told Renata that even though she understood that what she had done was in order to save a classmate's life, she had also broken the rules. Renata understood and thanked her. The girl was given a box by the secretary, who smiled at her kindly and told her good luck on whatever she did. After grabbing all her stuff from her locker, and putting on one of Jacob's sweatshirts he had lent her over the weekend. She took her phone and dialed the only person at the moment who she knew wouldn't lecture her.
"Hello?" The voice said at the other end of the call.
"Hola, are you busy?" Renata asked.
"We're in lunch. Are you in trouble?" The voice at the other end asked worriedly, "yeah, it's Renata. I don't know... okay, I'll ask her. Paul asks if he needs to call Sam"
"No, I'm okay, I just need you to come pick me up, can you?" Renata prayed he wouldn't press more on the matter.
"Okay, I'm on my way" Jared told her and she sighed, "I don't know, man, yeah I-" Renata heard distantly before Jared hanged up
Renata sat in the stairs at the front door, waiting for the black pickup truck to appear in the parking lot. Once he was there, Renata put the box with her stuff in the back and sat next to Jared, waiting for him to ask for an explanation but he didn't. He stayed quiet and Renata silently thanked him. She honestly felt terrible. She had gotten so angry she had put herself and the pack in danger, the force she had used was just not normal for anyone with her complexion. Besides, she had actually hurt a person, she was supposed to protect humans and so far she had done a terrible job. The boy she had "saved" fell into a coma, his brain lacked oxygen for too long... so she ready had accomplished nothing, only to get expelled.
Jared pulled over at Emily's and said goodbye go Renata, who waved at him until he was out of sight. She entered the house, Emily was in the kitchen, making meatballs for the pack. When she heard Renata enter, she turned off the stove and walked to her. Emily sensed there was something off with her, but seemed as if a light had gone out. Emily sat Renata down and asked her what happened. Renata didn't need to be asked twice, she started talking and told Emily everything exactly how it happened. She finished the story by telling her that while she was asking for the box to put her stuff in, a call came in, she eavesdropped with her powers and found out George had gotten into a coma. All the pride she had felt by saving him from a bully, immediately fell down. By this point, Renata had started crying, and telling Emily she was not capable of being the protector of the pack.
"I can't do it, Emily. I can't save anyone... I couldn't save them" Renata said crying. Her face was a mess, swollen and red, her nose was running and her eyes were glassy and puffy.
Emily didn't say anything, just held Renata while she cried her heart out. Somehow, Emily knew Renata was not just talking about the incident at school, she was thinking about how she couldn't save her brothers. She wanted to save everyone, but she couldn't. Up until now, Emily thought Renata had gotten better, that she had mourned her brothers and was able to move on with her life, but now it was clear she wasn't ready to move on. Renata had kept herself distracted with the pack and Jacob, burying the feelings she had, all the fear, sadness, anger, frustration and loneliness were buried deep inside her. Emily understood that Renata had tried to substitute her brothers with the pack, but the bond she had with them was something impossible to replicate.
By the time the boys arrived from school, Renata was asleep in the couch, she had fallen asleep crying, her face was still red and tear stained. Emily was finishing the meatballs and warned them that if they woke her up, they would go to bed without dinner. Emily pulled Sam aside and told him what had happened. Sam was angry at first, he wanted to go and yell at Renata for being reckless, but one pleading look of Emily changed his mind. He decided to let her sleep, and talk to her tomorrow. Around eight, her phone started ringing Paul answered and growled, then gave the phone to Sam.
"She's asleep" Sam told the person in the other end, "no, I frankly don't see the importance" Sam clenched his fists, "I won't wake her up if it's not a matter of life and death" Sam was getting angry, he didn't particularly like talking to the vampires. He was going to hang up when someone took the phone off his hand.
"Hey, it's me" Renata said. It was Rosalie.
"You're not about to bail on me, are you?" Rosalie asked her, the only way she had agreed on the party was because Renata told her she wouldn't leave her alone with all the Bella-lovers.
"No, I- I'll be there" Renata said sniffing a little, and scratching her eyes, which were too puffy to keep open. She hanged up and put on her shoes, which Emily had taken off her to lay her down on the couch.
"If you're not feeling well, you don't have to go" Sam told her calmly.
"It's okay, I promised. I'll be back around twelve" Renata told them and sighed before leaving the house.
"Paul, follow her up until the treaty line, she's not well" Sam told him sternly, Sam waited for Paul to complain but he just nodded.
Renata walked to the treaty line, she knew Paul was following her.
"Thanks, Paul" Renata said before jumping to the Cullen territory, where she started jogging.
Halfway there, Renata stopped. One step closer and Edward would know she was there. She took two steps back. The wolves couldn't enter the territory, the Cullen's didn't know she was already there. She could escape now. Run and not come back, just crawl into a hole and wait for nature to absorb her, she could go to the mountains, and she could jump, no one would miss her. They didn't need her. To the Cullen's she was almost a pet, they liked her but she would never be part of the family, not really. The pack didn't necessarily need her, they just needed a shaman, and Leah's powers were growing. She had no place, her place was always with her brothers... since they were born and until they died, but she was all alone now, it was not natural, they belonged together, the three of them. Renata turned around, and started running to the mountains.
