I awoke to a beeping noise, my head pounding like crazy. What the?
I rubbed my eyes groggily, trying to wake myself up. The first thing my mind registered when I looked around was the bowl of popcorn toppled over, the Twilight saga movie on repeat, still playing from last night, and Melissa lying face down on the floor, drool pouring down from her mouth.
I stifled a laugh at her awkward morning position, then got up quietly and walked down the stairs. On the table was a black box wrapped with a white bow. A note was attached that read:
To: Sophie
I grabbed the box and opened it carefully. Grinning, I grabbed the item. It was a iPhone 5S, the back was a blackish sort of color. A note was attached and I read it, my mouth reading along silently.
Sophia, I know things haven't been going great lately, and I know that this can't make up for it, but here you go. I noticed you've been using the house phone lately, and I felt bad. Don't even worry about programming it because I already did. I already put all your contacts in here, so you don't have to do that either. I got black, which is your favorite color, right?
Much love and wishes,
Mrs. Tilly
Gosh, she was so nice. Why was I so rude to her? She didn't deserve any of this. I planned on thanking her when she got home. I walked back up the stairs and opened my window. Aston leaned against his truck, waving.
"Nice to see you finally got up. I've been honking the horn for thirty minutes."
I scoffed. "Shut up, Ash. Why are you even here? Melissa doesn't leave until later."
He glared at me. "So what you're saying is that I'm not welcome here?"
I rolled my eyes. He always takes things the wrong way. "No! I just didn't know why you were here."
He smiled. "Oh! I'm here to take you guys out for ice cream."
"Ice cream? Wha- Why?"
He grinned like a child in a candy store. "Why wouldn't I?"
Touché. I motioned one minute and walked over to where Melissa was laying. She snored a little and more drool fell from her mouth, and I laughed softly. I nudged her with my foot, and she rolled over, her head hitting the bed.
"Ow!" she exclaimed, sitting up. "You just interrupted an amazing dream. Taylor Lautner offered to let me feel his six pack."
I laughed at her girlieness. "But it was for a good reason."
She raised one eyebrow. "Oh, yeah? What is it?"
I grinned. "Ice cream."

We sat at the little table, each eating a cup of different flavors of ice cream while Aston admired my cell phone.
"You. Have. This. Phone?!" he exclaimed.
I giggled. "Why. Are. You. Talking. Like. That?"
He rolled his eyes. "Dude, you're seriously lucky. I don't even have a phone like this. I have a Galaxy S4."
I mock- pouted. "Oh, poor baby."
He rolled his eyes then grabbed a scoop of ice cream with his spoon...
And flicked it on my face.
Which thus started an ice cream war between all three of us.
Ice cream hit my face and bounced over the napkin container, and Melissa, seeing it coming, ducked, while Aston, sadly, did not. Ice cream flew into his eye and he howled in pain.
"Oooh," Melissa winced. "That's gotta hurt."
Aston wiped his eye furiously, crying out once again. "Ya think? Mel, help me!"
Melissa crossed her arms over her chest in defiance. "And you want me to help you, why again?"
Aston's eye was becoming a shade of crimson and I turned to Melissa. "Mel. His eye is turning into a Sour Patch, come on, I seriously don't think now is the time to be acting all big and bad. Help him, please."
Aston put his hand out to me, exasperated. "See, Mel. Sofa has no issue helping me. So why do you?"
Melissa raised her eyebrows. "Are you seriously asking that question? You know damn well why I'm not helping you. And I won't help until you tell her."
Aston looked dumbfounded. "Tell who, what again?"
Melissa stood up, grabbing paper towels from the dispenser before tugging Aston after her. "I'm gonna have a little chat with Aston, m'kay, Sophia? We'll be outside.."
They left and I stood up to follow but my phone interrupted the process.
Ring. Ring.
"Hello?"
"Hey, Sophia. It's Mrs. Tilly. Are you guys having fun?"
"Yeah. We are. What's up?"
"Well, our next door neighbors are coming over for dinner and I want to introduce you to them. They are really nice and they even have a son your age."
"Okay. So?"
"I want you to come home right now, please. They'll be here any minute."
"Okay. I'll be there."
I hung up the phone to see Melissa pacing back in forth of the entrance door, Aston holding his hands out to calm her down. Melissa shouted something and Aston threw his hands up in annoyance, earning a slap across the face from Melissa. I winced and covered my face. Damn. I wonder what she told him.
A few seconds later, Aston and Melissa entered the ice cream shop, except each looked a little different. Aston had a red mark on his face while Melissa smiled triumphantly.
I took a deep breath and gave them the news.

I opened the door to my house, seeing a bunch of people that I didn't know - most likely, the neighbors - all standing around in the kitchen, huddled together. That's when I noticed a boy standing turned away from me, drinking a soda. Oh he was so going to get it.
I marched up to him, eyebrows furrowed, then tapped his shoulder.
"Listen dude, I don't really appreciate your all night parties, so next time you better turn it down okay? Because I don't want to-"
The boy turned and I choked on my words. Because the boy in front of me was Matthew.AUTHORS NOTE:
