She was not fragile like a flower; she was fragile like s bomb.
Damon's POV
I rub my eyes trying to read the time correctly. 7:00 am.
Yup, that's right! I woke up at 7 am on a cool and cozy Sunday morning.
Tho I'm not complaining at all. In fact, I'm in a very good mood today.
"Good morning Walter." I greet him since he's already awake. "Did you sleep well?" I ask him with a big smile on my face.
"Not sure about me but why are you all sweet and chirpy early in the morning?"
"Just like that, you know. Whereas I've kind of grown used to the music by now. Helps me sleep better." I say half truthfully.
"Or moreover the person who plays it." He mumbled to himself but I clearly heard him.
"You said something?" I ask him in a daring tone.
"Yes I was asking where you were yesterday. I couldn't find you in here."
"Oh right about that. I was out for...
some fresh air." I complete my lie hastily."Alone?"
"Not really..."
"Wait a sec." he stopped abruptly. "You followed Miss Hazel outside, didn't you?
Goodness sake! I hope you didn't confront her about what happened earlier yesterday."
I just shrug in return since I don't really know what to say. Whereas his dramatic look was making me anxious.
He shook his head and sighed. "You're always ready to jump into action, aren't you?" He gave me a disapproving look.
"Did I do something wrong?"
"I mean didn't you see the way she was behaving. It was only right for someone to knock some sense into her." I try to defend my actions.
Then again she was so nice to me when I was talking about my parents.
"Do you even know anything about them? Do you even know her?" He was practically yelling by the end of his statement.
"Why do you think their mother daughter relationship is so on the edge?"
He continued without expecting a reply. "It's because Mrs. Williams is not Hazel's mother."
I stand still at my place speechlessly.
"What?"
Walter sighed dropping down his head. He rubbed his forehead with his fingers, then looked up at me again.
"Steve has only one daughter and that's Hazel." He stopped, studying my face for a moment.
So Lisa and Hazel are actually step sisters! No wonder they are complete opposites.
"What about his sons?" I ask trying to process the shocking new relevation.
"None of them are biologically related to Steve."
"You mean Lisa and the two boys are Mrs Scarlet's children?" I ask in an attempt to clear my confusion.
"No, not exactly. Okay I don't know how to explain this to you but... the youngest one Alex was adopted by Hazel's mother and Steve a few years after Hazel was born. Later, Steve married Mrs Scarlet who already had two children."
Can this family get anymore complicated? Anyway that does explain the tension in the family.
"So where's Hazel's mother?"
Walter looked at the floor a bit devastated. "She died... long back."
I didn't know what to say. All I did was lower my gaze naturally. I should have guessed it sooner.
