Damon's POV
My professional self took over me as soon as we reached the cafeteria. There wasn't anyone around in the ICU ward but it's crowded here. We walked inside once I was sure the people and objects are out of suspicion. There were mostly patients, nothing out of order.
I stood right behind Hazel as she ordered a sandwich for herself and a cup of coffee before she turned to me.
"What will you have?" She tilted her head up in order to look at me. Her gorgeous hazel eyes piercing at me questioningly but I didn't have time to admire them right now."No thanks, I'm good!" I shifted my gaze towards the entrance now watching some people enter the area. One of them is a patient, the other two look like his family...
"You haven't eaten since morning either. Do you think you'll be able to protect me like that." She scoffed.
I suppressed the urge to roll my eyes at her. "I'm not here to play around Hazel." I said in a final tone.
She lowered her eyes instantly and nodded her head.
"I agree you shouldn't play around while eating. You might end up choking." She says thoughtfully still nodding.
This woman! Guess she's back to her usual self now.
Well isn't that what I wanted? I would have smiled if we were in any other situation but now isn't really the best time for that.
"If you don't say what you want I'll just order something for you."
She waited for me to answer. Not that I gave any. Well, she isn't the only stubborn one here. She waited a few more seconds before turning around and going back to the counter. "Make them two please. And a cake. Yup this one!"
She turns back to me, a triumph smile playing on her lips and this time, I roll my eyes at her while trying to mask the smile appearing on my face.
That's Hazel being Hazel.
But her smile did not last long as her face now turned into a scowl. She puts her hand in her pockets frantically searching for something and I immediately walk up to the cashier. She probably didn't carry money since we came here in a rush. But that's actually good cause I wouldn't let her pay anyway.
"How much is it?" I ask the guy who must be in his mid twenties.
But before I could take out my wallet, Hazel slammed her hand on the counter in a hurry. "I'm paying." She extended her card to the guy. I tried to put her hand away but the cashier accepted it before I could object.
He smiled at her flirtatiously, stopping his hand midway lingering it a little longer while he accepted the card.
Hazel looked a bit alarmed but I acted on my impulse before she could even respond. With one swift motion I steal the card away from his grip, now standing right between them.
"I asked How Much Is It?" I repeat emphasizing every single word, now leaning over the counter. He takes a step back trembling a little while I glare at him.
I remove my wallet paying him the exact amount without taking my eyes off him even for a second.
"Damon.." I whip my head to see a perplexed Hazel staring back at me. She looks a bit shocked and I drop my glare immediately bringing back my straight face.
