"Be like a book - people must spend time with you to know you better."
Hazel's POV
I jerked back due to a sudden voice echoing in the hall. It was the speaker calling for some doctor.
I opened my eyes slowly and the lights above blinded my sight, making me blink a few times. That's when I felt there was something hard against my head... My eyes go wide realizing what it is.
I shoot up sitting straight, away from Damon's arm. Turning to my right I met his eyes, there was a slight wave of discontent on his face before it vanished completely.
I glanced at the clock above to know how long has it been and realized I drifted off for nearly twenty minutes.
That's strange, I feel like it's been so long. My hand felt warm and sweaty, earning my glance, only to find Damon's hand resting over mine, clutching it firmly.
In spite his job, his hands weren't very rough as I thought they would be. Except for the few bruises on his hands which seemed old and now almost healed.
His hand was warm which gave me a soothing sensation. I don't really like physical contact with people, except very few ones.
But I don't seem to mind his touch.
It felt as if it was helping me to hold on to something... something for dear life.He shifted in his place slowly releasing my hand from his grip. His warmth now gone leaving nothing but coldness. And for some unknown reason it felt unsettling.
I looked at him. His face is covered in a thin layer of sweat which seem to gleam in the blinding light.
Is he hot?
His eyes landed on me and I immediately looked away. Yes, it's indeed hot. I remove the coat draped over me now realizing how hot it is in here.
I gave it a fold but held it in my hand placing it over my laps.
Damon took out his phone which vibrated in his hand. He stood up while answering the call walking to the further end of the hallway.
He talked over the phone but kept glancing my way every few seconds keeping a check on me.
As I stare at the ICU doors painfully I feel a sudden wave of emotions. I was too worried to think about anything other than Aiden's safety but now those thoughts ran through my head.
First it was mom and now...
I clench my fists tightly and my finger nails start digging in my palms.
It's all because of him! Because of dad! Dad and his business. His work and fame has brought nothing but pain to us. But did he once care about it? No! For him, his company will always be his priority.
I was afraid Aiden would follow his footsteps and that's exactly what he did.
I blink hard trying to hold back my tears which were threatening to pour out any second. I swear if anything happens to Aiden I won't be able to live.
Even though we aren't blood related, he always treated me like we were. I consider him as my real family. Perhaps my only family.
I jerk my head as I find Damon approaching me. He takes a seat beside me turning his body in my direction.
"Can I have your phone for a second?" He says and extends his hand waiting for me to hand over my phone. I was skeptical but I fished out my phone right away looking down at my pocket as I didn't want him to see my face while trying to blink away the wetness from my eyes.
