C H A P T E R 11

—nova's pov—

daniel and i arrived at his complex and headed to the roof. there a table full of food laid under the string lights hanging a few feet up. there was a ping pong table sitting a couple feet away and a pool area was closed off somewhere near the corner.

'nova!' keri exclaimed as she walked over and hugged me

'hey keri!' i say as i embrace her

a girl with long blonde hair and light blue eyes walks over and smiles

'i'm anna, daniel's little sister' she calmly states as she shakes my hand

'hi anna, im nova' i reply

'wait nova everett?' she questions

'yup, i'm nova everett, my dad's coleman everett' i say

'no way! i absolutely adore you!' she smiles

'awe thank you!' i smile at her as we both giggle

we all walk over to the table and sit down, daniel's dad walks over with a dish full of pasta.

'you must be nova, i'm jeff, daniel's dad' he smiles setting the dish down gently

'hi jeff' i smile shaking his hand.

a couple hours go by, we all talk and laugh about our pasts. we laugh at baby pictures of daniel and his siblings, i show them some baby pictures of my own.

'we're gonna head inside, it's getting kinda cold out here' daniel says as we both get up

'ok, if you're still hungry there's some food in the fridge to snack on' keri replies, daniel thanks her and we head down to his house.

we laugh as we run into his room, flopping onto his bed. i lay on his comforter and set down my purse

'so how was it?' daniel asks as he hovers over me

'how was what?' i ask admiring his eyes

'meeting my parents' he responds

'it was amazing, you have such an adorable little family' i laugh

'why thank you, and when do i get to meet your lovely mother?' he questions

'well it depends on if we have any time' i say

'hm, we'll have to see' he smiles as he pecks my lips

'are you cold?' his eyebrows furrow

'maybe a little' i say rubbing my arms

'here, take my hoodie' he states as he throws a grey hoodie from his closet

i pull the hoodie over my body and turn to the window, admiring the view. the sun rested above the horizon, an array of arranges, yellows, blues and purples colored the sky

'beautiful isn't it?' he asked laying next to me

'yeah, today has been such a good day' i look at him

'it has been a pretty good day. well since it's nice out, do you want to go on a drive?' he asks

'a drive? daniel we don't have a car?' i chuckle

'we can rent one, how about a convertible?' he smiles

'daniel' i sigh

'come on, it'll be fun, i promise' he smiles kissing my hands

'fine daniel' i laugh as i grab my stuff

as we run out of his room, his mom stops him before he could open the door.

'and where are you guys going?' she questions

'a drive, i wanna show her the beauty of la since she hasn't explored the city' he replies

'ok, have fun kiddos' she smiles as he quickly opens the door and bursts out of the complex

we hop into the waiting uber and drive to the enterprise a couple blocks away. we thank the driver and head into the enterprise.

daniel smiles brightly as he approaches the red convertible we had just rented for the night. he opens the passenger door and helps me in, then he runs over to the drivers side and hops in and starts the car. the engine roars to life, i turn to see daniel already looking at me.

'you ready nova?' he yells over the engine

'ready as i'll ever be' i say

he nods and begins pulling out of the parking structure and onto the street. he drives towards la and shows me the city of lights. after a couple of hours of driving, he drives away from the city and down a dark, dimly lit road. i hide my hands into the large hoodie to warm them up, the wind rushes past my ears and through my hair. 20 minutes later, i look to my side to see absolutely nothing except for occasional street lights.

'where are we going' i ask daniel

'you'll see' he smiles as he turns onto a dirt road

a couple minutes later, he stops the car in the middle of nowhere and gets out. he turns the engine off and helps me out.

'close your eyes' daniel says

i obey and shut my eyes, i feel him pick me up and set me down on the trunk of the car. i feel him turn me, he cradled me between him, his chest pressed against my back.

'ok, now open them' he whispers into my ear

i open my eyes and look up. stars shimmer throughout the sky, i saw clusters of constellations and flickering stars

'daniel' i gasp

'i always come out here if i'm stressed' he kisses my neck

'i can't even' i smile widely

i admire the various constellations and stars that cluster around the night sky, it was amazing, it reminded me the times when dad took me outside to see the stars.

—daniel's pov—

i watched her as she awed at the night sky. i knew she was going to love this place, from the looks of it she seemed ecstatic. i watched as the wind blew through her hair, her eyes glistened as they scanned the sky. she took a deep breath and leaned her body onto mine. i wrapped my arms around her body and bent down to her face.

'my star' i smile before kissing her lips

we both looked up to see a shooting star. i look down at her again and ask her one simple question,

'will you be my girlfriend?'
