Lance had 2 leg prosthetics from a youngish age. He was old enough to remember how it happened. His family was driving home from a family reunion. It was later than Lances bed time. He was falling asleep and waking up in a matter of seconds. His older sister Veronica looked at him and smiled. She looked back down at her phone and continued to text. Lances brain, in his mind chose the worst time to completely wake up where he really couldn't get back to sleep for a little bit. He remembers his mom on the passenger side looking back at her kids and saying they were to go straight to bed when they got home. Then a drunk driver hit them. They were near a small cliff. The drunk driver swerved off his side of the road and knocked them through the railing. He remembers screaming as the tumbled down the cliff. Things all around the car moving. Them getting jerked all around. When the car came to a stop they were upside down. Lances legs we trapped under the passenger side seat and shrapnel. His dad tried to open the door it was stuck. His mom tried hers was stuck too. Then Veronica then Lance. They were all stuck. They got the jaws of life. But it was a little late for their father. He was impaled by a tree branch. It killed him. Lances legs were mangled from the shrapnel. His sisters arm was twisted in a weird way from hitting the car door so much while falling. Marco probably had a concussion and his mom narrowly avoided death. If she had moved an inch from where she was she could have been impaled too. The next think Lance remembers is the pain finally setting in. The shear panic he had. What would happen to him, would he walk, could he still play his sports. He was so afraid. Their mom was thankful about their insurance. It covered mostly everything. It got Lances prosthetics almost completely free. They all had a hard time dealing with the death of their father. His mom was a widow and would never remarry. Lance can't confirm that now, but he's sure of it. The Garrison knew about it of course. They gave him ones that would work better for flying an aircraft, they were more flexible. Hunk never knew about them cause the only time Lance would take them off is when he was asleep. He could walk easily due to it being more flexible and high tech and his legs were gone just below the knee. Now here they are. In space, Lance doesn't mind that but if he takes his legs off and then boom a Galra fleet, he's gonna have some trouble. So he usually keeps them on until he goes to bed. Now, here he is laying on his bed without his prosthetics trying to sleep. It had been a hard day, they had a tough mission and Lance got his with something. Allura said it does something to your dreams he didn't really listen. Hell if it makes your dreams good Lance wants more of it. But of course it wasn't. It made his dreams to realistic, causing him not being able to sleep, thinking about his team dying. This is the second time that night that Lance had woken up. He was getting close to going to the lounge and just sitting and looking at the stars. He ended up doing that. He took his legs off again. He liked to see the nubs, oddly enough but it grounds him, shows that he's real.
"Lance is that you?"
Lance jumped at the voice.
"Possibly." He pulled his legs over to him to hide them.
"Why are you up so late."
Lance turned to see who exactly it was, he was pretty sure it was Keith but wanted to make sure.
"I could ask the same question." Lance retorted.
"Are you ok? I never see you come out here late at night."
"You barely come here Keith. You've just never seen me."
"Was it from the dream thing that you got hit with?"
"Yeah, the nightmares got worse than normal."
"Than normal? Do you have nightmares a lot?"
"Yeah I do."
"About what? If your ok with me asking?"
"On one of the subjects, so you know like having dreams of your team dying and it's all your fault. I get yelled at for everything I do wrong but I never get praise. If someone gets hurt it's always my fault."
"Hey don't say that your pretty amazing." Keith sat next to Lance on the floor he looked up to the stars.
"Sorry it's just everyone is kinda sometimes mean."
"I'm sorry, I suck at emotions I just act on my mind."
"It's fine your more nice than Shiro right now."
Keith gave a small smile and moved closer to Lance. He kicked something on accident.
"Did you bring something in here?"
"Nope just my legs."
"What?"
Lance became aware of what he said and his eyes widened.
Keith reached down to feel plastic.
"Lance?"
Lance grabbed his legs and tried to put them on but Keith grabbed one of his legs.
"Lance, do you not have a leg."
"It's none of your business."
"Lance I- we need to know as a team if you don't have something."
"If I'm doing fine I don't have to tell you anything."
"No as a team you tell us everything."
"I'm not going to tell just one of you that destroys the purpose of telling the team."
"Well if you just told me no one would know. While if you told the whole team everyone would know."
"Yeah like mr. I don't like emotions would listen to the story of why I don't have legs."
"Wait legs! Both! I thought it was just one!"
"You assumes just one, but no its both."
"Oh, how did you lose them or were you born like that."
"I lost them in a car accident. A drunk driver."
"Lance I'm so sorry."
"Don't feel so bad it's when I was 5 I can barely remember it."
"Do you wanna talk about it?"
"No but I'd like my other leg back."
"Sorry sorry, forgot."
"It's fine."
Lance put on his other leg and stood up.
"Well that was a fun chat, but imma go back to bed."
"Ok, you should tell the team in the morning. Or use it as your memory, we're doing that training again."
"Oh fun drop it on them like a bomb."
"Yup."
Lance walked away while Keith said looking at the stars for a little bit longer.

"Good morning Paladins today we Are doing some of are mental training! This is to see what we can help you with. So if you have a bad memory we can work on helping you get through it. Is that okay with everyone?"
They all replied with a sure or a yes. Keith looked toward Lance and gave him a knowing look. Lance looked back and nodded he was going to show them.
"Who wants to go first?"
Shiro (lets just say it's the real one since he's back) wanted to go first. He showed a memory of when he escaped this last time from the Galra. They talked through it and went on.
"I'll go." Lance raised his hand, he usually goes last not second.
"Ok think back to the memory and we will all be able to see it."
"Alright." He closed his eyes and focused back on the memory. A nice warm night with his family all gone wrong. He became an amputee, his brother ended up with long term brain damage. His sister ended up with her arm having less movement, his mom ended up with anxiety. She never wanted to drive at night, she wouldn't let them go out in the front yard or anywhere. His mom must be so worried about him right now. By the time the memory ended Lance had a few tears going down his face. So did a few other people.
"Lance?" Shiro engaged in conversation
"Yeah?"
"You're and amputee?"
"Yeah the Garrison gave me these cool Hightech legs! I can get them on and off very very quick witch is nice in this situation."
"Lance you should have told us this sooner."
"You would have found out soon if I somehow broke these then Pidge or hunk would tell you."
"That's not safe."
"Well Keith found out last night so. It was kinda safe."
"Lance."
"Yeah yeah I'll go to my room."
"No you'll stay here, just tell us these things ok?"
"Ok space dad."
