He felt as if his heart had been ripped out of his chest. The standard response a man would have if he discovers the life he has made for himself had been viscously ripped out from under him and by his own father nonetheless, especially for a man as powerful as Eric Wolff. He was what every woman wanted and every man envied. He had an unlimited amount of wealth and felt no shame in showing it off. He believed that if you had something you let everyone know it. But what really made his fame were his looks.
His dark blue eyes that were known to be both additive and commanding were so much like his father’s. While his father’s eyes were golden when he changed to his wolf form and Eric’s were amber, as if the jewel itself had been placed in his eyes at birth. While his father had blond hair, Eric got his mother’s black hair that reached his shoulders. His shoulders were broad and strong. Standing at 6’ 5’’, he had the presence of a man that was born to lead.
He knew that soon he would have to take up the position of Head Alpha of Silver Moon Clan. After all, he was current leaders first born son. He felt could do whatever he wanted. He was wrong. “What do you mean I have to marry!” he shouted to the man who dared invaded his office as if he owned the place.
His father gave him a blank stare before replying, “It means what I have said it meant.” He took deep breath be continuing, “In order to become the next Head Alpha of the Silver Moon Clan, you have to marry. This has been a tradition in our family since my great grandfather took over this clan 275 years ago.”
Eric could feel the anger rise inside but knew better than to attack his own father, he was mad not suicidal. He learned the lesson the hard way that his father was stronger than him and did not want a repeat of that experience. Considering most of the employees of his company were fellow werewolves and those who were close enough could hear the entire conversation between him and his father. He did not want to end up killing one of the lesser wolves because of their smart mouths. Eric thought about his next words before saying, “This is a new time and era we should no longer have to rely on the old ways after all they were all a bunch of old… ” Before he could finish his statement he realized his mistake and hurried to correct himself. “What I mean to say is that it’s time to throw away those old traditions and embrace new ones, ones that are more updated.”
His father’s eyes flashed a rich golden color and Eric knew that his father’s wolf was close to surfacing. “And what type of new traditions should we embrace, Eric.”
Eric knew his father had set a trap with that question, but didn’t know how. “Ones that don’t require we marry, just to get a position. If it were up to me, I would never marry.” Eric would later remember what happened to be an act of a lapse of judgment on his part.
Eric saw the movement but was too slow to dodge it: his father’s hand shot out and grabbed his throat before he had the chance to dodge it. “Don’t you ever suggest that again!” his father roared, his fingers tightening. “You are my son and next in line for the head alpha position! It is your duty to marry for the sake of the pack. If you don’t have kids then the positions goes to my younger brother and I prefer that the Head position stays in my line of the family as it has always had. Do you understand me?” He stared at his son one more time before letting go of his throat and walking over to the other side of his son’s office.
“Yes,” Eric said, “I understand you perfectly."
“Good,” his father responded.
After they both calmed down for a while, someone knocks on the door. And from the way they are franticly knocking this person had knocking for a while. During the argument neither father nor son had heard them. “Come in,” Eric said after adjusting his clothes to hide his healing bruise mark.
His secretary and fellow werewolf, Josie Madden, walks in and immediately bows her at the sight of both her Head Alpha and future head alpha. “Oh,” she blushed, “I’m sorry I didn’t mean to interrupt but I have something important to tell you.”
“Don’t worry about, Josie we were about finished any way, now what could be so important.” Eric assured her.
“Sirs, it’s about Damien.” She whimpered.
Both men stood at the mention of the Betrayer’s name. “What about him Josie.” Eric’s voice had a hard edge to it.
“He’s return.”
