A few days later I'm still trying to get my head around the fact that my mum is dating Brad's dad. Could life get any weirder?

I go downstairs to get breakfast and realise my mum is at work. She still works Monday to Friday even during the holidays which is good for me as it means I get the house to myself pretty much every day of the holidays.

The postman comes and I pick up the post off the floor before the dogs can get to it. I flick through all the boring stuff addressed to my mum until I see something addressed to me. It's hand written with fancy slanted writing. I didn't even know people actually sent letters to anyone anymore.

I sit at the dining table with my bowl of cereal and open the letter. It's short but I guess it only needs to be short to get the message across.

It read

'To Sophie,
I don't have your number so this was the only way to ask you. I'm going to try and keep this short because I'm only good at writing songs, not letters, but please don't tell anyone that my dad is dating your mum. I don't want people to know this about my personal life. Here's my number in case you want to meet up some time. This stays between us.
Brad x'

What the fuck. Oh my god. Brad just sent ME a letter. "Aaahhh omg!" I'm so glad my mum isn't here because she would not enjoy me screaming right now.

It's a good job I haven't told anyone about this because I wouldn't want Brad to hate me. I want to think he recognised me and he knew who I was but I doubt he does.

I put Brad's number into my phone but I don't contact him straight away. Instead I decide to take my dogs out for a walk to take my mind off everything. I drive to Sutton Park which is about a 20 minute drive from my house. I've been walking the dogs there ever since we first got the two of them.

After about half an hour of walking I see a huge golden retriever run towards my dogs. I then see the owner and freeze in my place. That's Brad. This is Jesse. Shit shit shit.

He comes over towards me and puts Jesse on the lead "Sophie! Hey! I'm sorry if she's tormenting your dogs, she just wants to play with them."

He remembers me. Oh my god. "Hey, it's fine they could do with Jesse running the energy out of them."

Brad smiles and lets Jesse off the lead. "Did you uh get my letter?" He says while looking at the ground and running his hands through his thick brown curly hair like an embarrassed school boy.

I giggle "yes I did, it was very formal of you" I smile at him.

"Well I thought it was the only way to get the message across. I had no other way or contacting you." He replies.

"Well I have your number now so I can contact you whenever." I say with a smile.

"Apart from the fact that I don't have your number and what if I wanted to see you but you didn't want to see me? Then you have all the power." He says giving me a cheeky grin.

"Fine, come here." I take his hand and write my number on it using a pen I found in my coat pocket. God knows how it got in there. "There you go. No excuses now to write me soppy letters."

"Hey! I thought it was alright for my first letter writing." Brad says defensively.

"It was okay I guess." I say as I look up at him smiling.
