The dance was boring.
Well... In Beca's opinion, is boring.
The whole place was lit by disco lights, people who dropped stuff on the floor would be unfortunate and will have to look for them the next day at the 'lost and found' section. The Gym was massive, so Beca got to sit at the highest bleachers and don't need to be thirdwheeled by everyone or seat with other girls and guys who went alone at the bottom bleachers, lined up and bored, looking like a bunch of losers.
The band was decent, but the DJ was the worst, he was messing a simple set up thinking it was cooler than it was supposed to be and Beca just had to grunt one more time at hearing him remix incompatible songs together.
Frowning down at her drink, Beca really thought that Mr. Steven would be a bit more strict about drinking liquor at a school dance, but he was pretty intuitive and knew that even if he banned it, jocks would still find a way to spike the punch, so he assigned Fat Amy to mix the drinks. Beca had to smirk at seeing Fat Amy hand out generous amount of the drink she made, it was the third batch and Beca knew almost half of the people there were drunk already, and Beca herself felt dizzy.
She was more than sure Chloe was drunk when the girl pulled her up by gripping her wrist and Beca almost thought Chloe hoisted her up for a kiss, but the redhead drunkenly giggled and booped her nose as she leaned their forehead together,"Come dance with me, my gallant knight." The redhead invited softly, their lips inches apart and Beca's breath hitching, the brunette can clearly smell the fruity smell of the alcoholic drink Chloe had been drinking all night and it was just so alluring Beca knew she could just kiss the redhead.
But the brunette prided herself for her self-control and stopped herself before she can do anything stupid,'Chloe is straight... Super duper fucking unbelievably straight.' She chanted in her head as she looked into Chloe's hazy eyes,"What about your Prince Charming?"
"He's off somewhere..." Chloe grumbled at the mention of her escort tonight, grunting too that she was too much of a chicken to just ask Beca out before Jacob came into picture when she was still single,"Now please come and dance with me... I really waited all night for this one." A drunk Chloe had no filter and Beca knew that well, so she blushed.
Taking Chloe's hand in hers, she looped it around her arm and walked Chloe down to the dancefloor where, like the DJ knew they were in love, changed the upbeat tune into soft, slow dance. And the redhead wasn't shy, she circled her arms around Beca's neck and buried her face into the brunette's soft tresses, feeling happier when Beca slid her own thin arms around Chloe's waist and held her closer and tighter, swaying with the music and ignoring everyone else that were there with them.
Chloe sigh, a breath of contentment and tightened her hold on Beca, trying to store this moment away into the land she made in her head where Beca was actually hers.
The music kept going on, their bodies were warm and their hearts were contented. Beca could feel Chloe's even breathe and chuckled at realizing that the redhead decided to take a nap on her shoulder, and Beca just felt like that was a moment she'd cherish forever.
"I love you." Beca said, breathily, softly combing Chloe's hair as she swayed the two of them.
She didn't care if Chloe heard her or didn't, because at that very moment, she felt the truth of those words and felt alive when she spoke it out loud, because it was the truest thing she ever felt, and the truest thing she ever felt was falling madly in love with Chloe Beale.
Falling madly in love with her bestest friend. Falling in love with her confidant. Falling in love with a girl who has a boyfriend. Falling in love with her very straight best friend. Falling in love with someone who can never love her back.
Hearing Chloe had waited to dance with her tonight and probably timing it up with a slow dance, Beca felt her heart flutter and stutter as she thought of possibilities.
"What'd you say?" Groggily, Chloe brought her head up and stared at Beca, confused.
She heard something, something she wanted to hear for so long, something her hazy mind recognized and half-asleep senses felt. Looking up, she found Beca staring at her with so much apprehension in her face, a look of worry too, then she looked unsure, after that, she reached up and took Chloe's hand from around her neck, something that reminded Chloe that Beca had done when they first kissed.
"I said I got to go." Beca rushed her words, but her actions were strained and she remained standing in front of Chloe while a few more people continued to slow dance around them.
She said those words but made no move to leave.
Beca's mind was, for once, clear. She decided that she had to do it, so pulling her right hand from Chloe's, she dug on her front pocket and located what she had been hiding since probably when they first kissed.
Beca had left the room that night, flushed and disoriented, but she knew at some point that her secret would be made known and if it was anywhere close to that, she wants Chloe to know first hand. So she dug her closet for the chest her grandfather had given her three months before he passed away and the necklace her grandmother handed her a year later.
The whole night Beca had written draft after draft of letters and scribbled and crossed out word after word. She stayed up until dawn where she decided that the first letter she made was the best amongst hundreds of other papers. So she took it, hid it inside the chest and brought it to the post office, deciding that the best time to give Chloe the chest was at graduation where if she rejects Beca, the brunette won't have anything holding her back from leaving Georgia and flying to New York.
"Here." Beca showed her the beautiful white gold necklace, a key dangling at its end.
The jewelry made Chloe gasp and sober up a little, staring at the customized key that had Mitchell embezzled on it.
"It looks beautiful, Becs... And ancient." She notified the brunette, the two snorting in agreement.
It was indeed old, according to her grandmother, the chest and the key had been passed down to every Mitchell heir for decades and Beca had been the heir Annabeth and Mark Mitchell chose to hand it over to.
From what Beca knew, her grandpa was damn sure that Annabeth was going to be his wife and his forever -which was too cheesy for Beca's opinion- and so did the rest of their ancestors. Only Anthony Mitchell believed none of it. Beca frowned, probably the reason why he cheated on her now.
"Put it on me?" Chloe requested and Beca gulped as Chloe turned and gathered her hair up.
"Sure..." Beca's voice was a bit hoarse, her hand shaking as she put it on Chloe, the small key clicking with the heart pendant Beca gave her too,"I sent you something... The key unlocks it."
Chloe excitedly turned to her, though her little exuberant jumped made her drunk ass wobble a little, Beca holding her upright by her shoulder.
"Oooh, is it at home?" Chloe asked, her enthusiasm clear in her voice.
Beca shook her head, a small fond smile coloring her lips,"It won't come till graduation."
Chloe frowned before her smile took over again, volatile is what Chloe represents.
"Well then... I can't wait." She told Beca.
"Neither could I." Beca breathily replied, taking Chloe's hand and bringing it up, "I'll be right back." The brunette promised, kissing Chloe's knuckle before letting go of her hand and walking away.
Whipping the sweat off her forehead, Beca sigh a breath of relief, the whole scenario taking its toll on her.
The best possible thing that could happen is if Chloe reciprocated her love accordingly.
