Pancakes.
Beca smells pancakes... And coffee... and flowers?
Opening her eyes, Beca stared at a vase filled with a fusion of flowers: dandelions, poppies, lilies and an assorted color of roses. The vase itself was beautiful and intricate.
The brunette grunted as she sat up, rubbing her temples as the bright rays of the sun came through the living room blinds and shined on her face. Rubbing her eyes from dust, the brunette looked around her surroundings and looked confuse, before her eyes landed in the kitchen where her visitors were.
Chloe and Sophie are dancing something disney in the kitchen while... bacon? Sizzles in the pan, two cups of coffee were on the counter isle, looking inviting.
But that wasn't really what surprised Beca, it was the fact that her apartment was... clean? Clean. Polished. Neat. It hadn't been neat since like... The day she moved in. The coffee table wasn't coffee or beer stained. The floor was vacuumed and there were no trace of dirt anywhere. She looked up at the wall clock she owned and saw that it was already pass 3. In the afternoon.
How could've she slept through Chloe cleaning her whole apartment? Beca doesn't know either. It's probably because she was dead asleep. And now she has a splitting headache that made her grunt really loud, taking the attention of two other people in the condo.
"Momma, Becky is awake." Beca heard the younger version of Chloe, despite the girl wanting to make it sound like a whisper, which made Chloe giggle.
Putting down her daughter, Chloe gave Beca a glance before turning back to the pan and placed the cook bacon on a plate, next to two sunny side ups and pancakes.
"Why are we having breakfast at 3 PM?" Beca grumbled as she walked into the kitchen and sat on one of the stools by the counter, her eyes turning to the small kid who looked at her with wonder.
Hee eyes were a slapping forthole back to when she and Chloe were young and carefree. Her eyes were the perfect resemblance of the redhead and that made Beca want to close her eyes againt and forget that reality existed.
But she can't. It was too late.
Her attention was taken back by Chloe who gave her a small smile while she set the plate of food down in front of the brunette,"You know I'm one for a fixer upper."
The small child beside her giggled as she nuzzled a small red panda closer to her chest. It made Beca smile a little bit, she remembered buying Chloe a red panda once, it had the same size and the same stain in its white bowtie.
Then Beca realized, that it was the same panda she bought Chloe way back then.
"I hope you don't mind that I moved some stuff." The redhead sheepishly told her.
If by moved some stuff she meant clean, the Beca doesn't mind at all. It made her feel less... broke.
"Its... fine." The brunette softly said, becoming a little bit awake now.
She remembered how domestic it felt to be served breakfast. She remembered her mother cooking, her dad reading the morning paper at the head of the table, and Sophia being the annoying older sibling that she was. She remembered thinking back then how it felt to be taken cared for by Chloe. How it would feel to live together... in love.
She shook the idea away and took a long whip of her coffee. The hard brew of ground coffee beans were so evident that it made Beca's headache momentarily go away. She took a sip and hummed at the strong taste of her coffee, it tasted just the way she liked it, just the perfect way Chloe always makes it.
Beca opened her eyes and it quickly directed to Chloe, who sat in front of her, offering little Sophie a bite of her bacon. She watched the two interact and felt a small smile tug at the corner of her lips as she watched Chloe give Sophie an eskimo kiss, making the small child giggle with delight as she chewed her food. Beca was staring too long that Chloe caught her soft gaze when the redhead turned her eyes to the brunette.
Beca snapped from her daze and sat straighter, clearing her throat and reprimanding herself for the stupid mistake of showing that she still had an ounce of care or feeling in her.
Either way, she still felt her face burn and cursed cheeks for betraying her and showing Chloe how guilty she is for staring. She heard Chloe giggle and rolled her eyes as she stirred her coffee a little more as a distraction.
"So," She cleared her throat, bringing the mug to her lips to take a sip and hid her embarrassment,"Why exactly are you in New York? I thought Mama Beale would anchor you down in Barden."
The brunette slightly regretted the fact the she brought it up as the small smile Chloe was sporting after catching Beca's gaze disappeared and was clouded by what Beca can recognize and familiarize with, apprehension.
Chloe kept her gaze on her food, not letting the brunette see the pain she tries to hard so much,"How'd you know my mom was back in our life?"
Beca was surprised to hear that question and realized her mistake, she quickly tried to think of an excuse so Chloe wouldn't ask further questions.
"I asked first..." She defiantly said, sipping her coffee again.
Chloe looked up, she stared at Beca. Her daughter stared at her. For a young age, Sophie can understand and feel when the topic was tense and shouldn't be delved into. For a moment, Chloe just stared at Beca, trying to decide if she should tell the brunette, if she should tell the brunette how she read the letters and tried to follow her. How she was stopped and was forced to be with someone she doesn't want.
She looked at Beca, she looked at how the girl she once knew was this woman who looked like she was hit by a trunk, thrown over a cliff, gone through the worst storm in the Pacific and still manage to survive, but still going through Hell. Still managed to be functional.
She tried to look for the old Beca she knew and failed to find the woman she loved.
Failed to see the usual light she so fondly bathed in.
Failed to feel any emotion left in there.
Failed to see love.
And she realized.
Her's wasn't just the worst story to be told.
