Chapter 33

So maybe storming out of the party just like that wasn't a good idea, but she didn't know what else to do. She couldn't stand Beca's disappointed expression, or her mother's smug face, her dad's defeated look or her sister's apologetic stare... Aubrey would be pretty condescending too.

Most of all, she can't stand to see Beca leave. Without her... Again.

She walked off the yard like a chick in hot heels, took her dad's truck keys and drove away as far as she could from Barden. She can't stop seeing Jacob's fucking face, and that one scar she has left him, that one scar that gave her the chance to take Sophie and run away from that shit hole.

Sophie...

Aubrey will take care of her.

A tear fell as she realized that Sophie would lose Beca too. It's not only her now.

She was reminded of all those afternoons Beca would get her from school and hang out with her. Chloe felt pain for her daughter... It would be like losing a best friend. And she knew how it felt too. It was like shards of glass piercing your heart, it was like the panic of being underwater for too long without a way to breathe sweet air, it was like being punched in the gut without it bruising. It was pain. Just pain.

Taking a sharp turn, she again faced the road to Barden. She won't go back to the party. But she can't leave Barden either. Driving back was for her daughter, driving back was to try and finish all of this, driving back was painful. Because she knew that she might not see Beca again. That she may never get to find her again.

She stopped.

Again.

She was beside the sign that said "Welcome to Barden: Were You'll Meet The Nicest of Them All", what a fucking lie.

She promised herself she'll never come back, not unless it's an emergency from her siblings. And yet she still did. This place was a haven for Chloe and a hell hole at once. It was no home for her, not since her mother left then came back to be the Devil's spawn.

Grunting, she slammed the steering wheel and sobbed, her heart clenching and unclenching as she thought of how her life fucked up in one single vacation. Breathing deeply she tried to compose herself, drying her tears with the pads of her hand, she blinked, she closed her eyes, she scoffed at how pathetic she might look. She grumbled and slumped as she felt like a total loser. Looking around her dad's car, she felt a bit victorious at what she found.

Whenever her parents fight, her dad would get on his truck, drive to a park, and drink whiskey straight from the bottle that he had stored under the steering wheel, covered by a blanket.

Taking a long swig, she watched as a white bus approached. It was leaving town. It carried everyone who wanted to leave town. Damn, it drove her and Sophie out the fucking place once. She watched in, then tried to see if she can find Beca amongst them.

It was all a blur as the bus sped pass her. She saw no face, well... More like she didn't see Beca. Or because the bus was running so fast she didn't get to catch one... Or Beca's at the least.

She grunted. There were two more buses that are leaving town.

Maybe she can get into one.

"Sophie... Remember Sophie, you selfish excuse for a mother." She put the bottle in her face after she took another swig, grumbling as she decided to make her life a little bit more miserable and think.

Yeah... Thinking wasn't so fun when all you have to is how you constantly want to please everyone around you, problems you can't seem to solve and how you fuck up every relationship you're in.
