Her head felt like it had a ton of brick over it. It was pulsating as if her heart transferred to her head and started beating faster in there. Her stomach felt empty and full at the same time and her throat felt like sandpaper.
She grunted as she opened her eyes. The room was too bright for her comfort, and her body felt like it hand been glued on the wrong places and made moving for her strained.
Then she panicked. The room wasn't her bedroom, she most certainly don't have white walls and the place was most certainly not their house. She was in a hospital.
Sitting up had been unfortunate for her, her vision darkened and her head felt like it suffered a big ass impact. Her left cheek felt tender and Beca was so confused why she was in a fucking Hospital.
"You're awake!"
Stacie got in the room with Jesse and Fat Amy, holding bags of food and matching black shirts. Beca frowned, Stacie was not one to wear shirts and most certainly not the one to show that she was crying, the three had red rimmed eyes and Beca realized that they had been crying, which made her confuse a bit more.
"Wha-" She wanted to ask what happened, she wanted to know why she's in the hospital, why her face was tender, why Aubrey, Chloe or Sophie was there with her, but her throat was dry and her teeth felt like its about to fall off her gums.
Jesse noticed her struggle to speak and reached for the pitcher beside Beca's bed and poured her a glass of water.
"You've been in the hospital two days now, shortstack..." Fat Amy told her and Beca's eyes widened.
"Graduation is tomorrow!?" Her sudden outburst made her cough, the water still travelling down her throat when she exclaimed.
Jesse nodded, humming,"Don't worry, you're excused for the funer-" The guy stopped abruptly when he realized what he said, gulping when he caught Fat Amy and Stacie's glare.
She seriously can't count the questions that's been swarming around her head and right now, it was too much.
"Can someone please fucking explain to me the five freaking W's as to me being here." Beca requested, her annoyance clear in her voice.
The three were tense for a whole minute, catching each others eyes and what seems to be a nod, they decided that Stacie knew best about the story.
"Do you remember coming to my house two days ago? You told me about what Jacob did and Chloe finding out?" Stacie watched as confusion and determination dawned in Beca's eyes, determination to understand and remember,"You drunk too much alcohol more than you can consume and it made you sleep through two days straight, Beca... It worried us, but your sister was more than fine if you 'died of alcohol poisoning'."
That hurt Beca, her own sister? But she wouldn't believe it yet,"What? Why!?"
"The night I brought your drunk ass home, you just bursted out and told your mom about the affair your dad was having." Stacie's eyes welled up at that part,"When you said it, your mom packed up and left, your father left too but no one knew where he went and Sophie..." Fat Amy started to sniff,"I'm sorry, Bec... But your sister hates you because your mom is dead."
Ringing. The silence in the room made her ears ring as the news went over her head. She remembered a few things that night and she remembered her mother carrying her baggage.
"Her car crashed to a tree at the corner out of town and when ambulance got to her it was too late." Jesse continued as Stacie's throat seemed to clog up from stopping her tears,"Your mother's funeral will be held tomorrow and your sister... Wanted you to stand as far from the actual burial sight as possible."
"Sophie's blaming you as to why your family broke and why your mom died..." Fat Amy continued.
"But we tried our best to explain to her! To tell her that it was too much for you to keep the secret!" The taller brunette frantically informed her.
"But she wouldn't listen." Jesse told her solemnly,"She was so mad she tried to wake you by punching you on the face." Beca reached for her
They were silent for a whole five minutes. Beca trying to process everything, trying to remember her reason for getting drunk,"And Chloe?"
Stacie, Jesse and Fat Amy shared a look again, Jesse shook his head,"She is as stubborn as Sophie... Her mom wouldn't let us come talk to her."
"Her mom?"
"Chloe's mom returned a week ago, just coming home two days ago... She heard every bad thing possible about us." Beca wanted to groan, wanted to flail, wanted to just scream.
But she was overwhelmed and she was weak and she was lost.
Her mom was dead. Her dad probably went home to his secretary. Her sister hates her and Chloe. The girl she loves. Her best friend. Hated her.
The night before graduation, Beca was permitted to check out of the hospital and go home. Yet when she got there, the for sale sign had shocked her.
"Sophie..." The voice behind her startled Beca, she didn't think Aubrey would even want to talk to her.
The blonde girl had her hand clasped in front of her and the look in her eyes made Beca realize that she was hurting too.
"We're leaving Barden." Aubrey declared, extending her left hand,"And Sophie thought that you should too."
There, dangling between her fingers were Sophie's car keys.
"She told me that it was best for the three of you." The blonde gulped,"You, your dad and Sophie, to be far away from each other."
Beca felt empty. Ever since she heard the news, she never uttered a word and kept herself in her head. She was hurting. And she was at fault. And she knew that.
Taking the key cautiously, Beca looked down at it, feeling too ashamed and unworthy to look at Aubrey.
"I don't hate you, Beca." The brunette was surprised to hear that, her head shooting up to look at her best friend,"If Sophie or Chloe does, I don't." Her voice was sincere, and her eyes were glassy as she stared at Beca,"I'll stand with you at that small oak tree about a few feet away from the actual burial ground... You still have me, Bec."
"You do-" Her voice was croaky, from unuse and her eyes were teary as she realized that Aubrey really don't hate her too,"You don't have to do that," She swallowed as she realized that Aubrey loved her still.
"I'm like your big sister too, Beca... I'm expecting you tomorrow... It'll be at 9 in the morning and you better be there." The brunette watched as the blonde walked away back to her house across the street and Beca rushed to the garage and into the car as she sobbed.
Her parents were no longer there. Her sister. Her best friend. All because she couldn't keep a secret. All because she was pissed off with a guy.
Then she stared again at the key in her hand. She had no close friends there aside from Jesse, Stacie and Fat Amy, they had their own problems and having them worry for her wasn't fair to them. Chloe would never forgive her despite the lies Jacob told her and she most certainly knew that Aubrey could not take her in because she also worry about Sophie.
So Beca decided that leaving Barden was the best decision she can make.
But there's one last thing she has to do before she leaves for good.
Telling Chloe.
