"Deep breaths, Chloe... Deep breaths." Chloe told herself as she stared at her reflection through the bathroom mirror.
So maybe she isolated herself in the bathroom in her parents house upon arrival, there's nothing wrong with that.
What's wrong was going alone, ahead of Beca, Aubrey and Sophie in hopes of evaluating the situation to tell if her and Beca could stay long or make this visit short. Aubrey barely gave her the judging eye upon her saying that, but Beca simply agreed and said she has to pass by the old diner they used to go first, which was weird for Chloe, but she didn't realize that was weird until she was a block away from Aubrey's house in her car.
"You gotta be chill, Beca's gonna notice and you're gonna be in deeper trouble," Chloe mumbled as she opened her make-up kit.
"What are you doing."
The redhead shrieked and whipped around so fast she almost slipped, only to find Emily behind her, eyes amused and arms crossed over her shoulder.
"Jesus Christ, Emily!" Chloe grunted, hand over her heart.
"I love you, Chlo, but I won't hesitate sending you to a mental hospital." Said her sister as it approached.
The redhead chuckled and straightened up, accepting the warm, welcoming hug her sister gave her.
"The party's at the backyard... Why are you still here?"
"Dad told me after he reveled at seeing me after a long time," Chloe answered,"I assumed he already told everyone in the party."
"Everyone's waiting to surprise you outside like it's your party," Emily rolled her eyes, pulling away from her sister to show this action,"You always steal the attention, sis."
"I do not." Chloe giggled, pushing her sister lightly.
Emily chuckled and turned to the door,"Come on, woman." The tall brunette called out,"You look pretty already."
Chloe nodded in acknowledgement, she took another breath, stared at herself in the mirror, and decided that... maybe it is time to tell Beca the truth.
"Oh hey, Beca, Aubrey!"
Eyes widening at what Emily said from outside the bathroom, Chloe bolted out and found Emily hugging Sophie who she still spoke to in baby voice. Sophie had a disgruntled look, but it was because Beca was teasing her.
"Oh, hey Chloe, remember Uncle Dan's Milkshake?" Beca extended a to-go cup of said milkshake her way after the brunette noticed her, Beca herself sipping from her own cup,"It's strawberry flavor, like we always liked."
"Beca insisted we go there before we drive here..." Aubrey informed Emily when the girl looked at the cup Chloe accepted with confusion mixed with amusement,"Sophie liked the vanilla flavor though."
"Wrong," Sophie announced and Beca's glare was immediately directed to her, which made Chloe smile at how adorable it looked,"I loved it!" The small girl announced instead and reached her arms up all the while looking at Beca.
"And now she likes it when Beca carries her everywhere." Aubrey reported to Emily as well as she watched Beca stoop down and take Sophie, then make her way to Chloe's side.
"Okay you two,"Emily chuckled,"Let's go at the backyard to start my party."
"Wow, your sister took me being here quiet well." Beca whispered to Chloe as they followed behind Aubrey and Emily who chatted all the way to the backyard.
"I'm surprised you took being back here quiet well." Chloe told the brunette who merely shrug.
"Sometimes, you need to face your worse nightmares head on." Beca smiled as Chloe opened the door for the two of them,"Plus..." Beca said, handing Sophie her milkshake to be able to hold Chloe's hands,"I'm with you."
Chloe didn't know if her blush was because she was being welcomed so marvelously by the her sister's guest, her uncle and aunts, her mom and dad and her other siblings, but she knew it was mostly of what Beca just said.
"Oh." Mrs. Beale said after she greeted Chloe,"You're here too." It was directed to Beca.
"Mom." Emily said disapprovingly, Chloe already frowning.
"Yes, Mrs. Beale..." Beca barely chuckled, but her hand started to tighten their hold on Chloe's,"Lovely welcome."
"You'll be the topic of the next town gossip, you know that." Mrs. Beale said as she motioned to the people speaking softly behind them.
"Mom." It was Chloe's turn to reprimand her mom, but it didn't stop the woman.
"Long lost prodigal child, coming back home to where she ruined her family."
"Mom!"
"Dad, could you please..." Emily told their father as he approached, realizing his wife was causing a scene.
"What's your problem?"
"My problem is her being here!" Mrs. Beale now started to yell, Beca remained standing in her place as her hand tighten her hold on Chloe's hand, letting Sophie hide her face against her neck.
"Could you take her please," She softly asked Aubrey to take the child to avoid getting her in the middle of it all, and was thankful that Aubrey immediately took her inside the house.
"Mom, you're causing a scene." Emily warned her mother.
"That girl ruined her family and she's going to ruin us next!"' Mrs. Beale continued.
Chloe glared at her mother,"Enough, mother."
"You're siding with her?"
"What did she ever did wrong to you."
"For starters, she took Chloe!"
"Dad."
"That's enough," Mr. Beale told his wife as he pulled her away.
Like it was permanent, Beca's smile never left her face as she watched it all unfold, her stature became stiffer by the minute.
"Bec?"
"It's okay."' The girl replied.
"We should go." Chloe told her sister over Beca's shoulder, but as they turned around, Chloe stopped, frozen on her tracks.
"Hi, Chloe."
Beca's smile dropped, Chloe was the next to stiffen, Emily became furious.
"Missed me?"
She never expected to see him again. To ever see him ever again. But his standing there, smirk on his lips, white shirt stained, smelly leather jacket over it. He looked like he took a shower three weeks ago.
Beca though, she was feeling rage. She was feeling a lot of anger at seeing this man again.
But most of all.
She felt lied to.
And Chloe knew...
Chloe knew she would not survive after this encounter.
