Chapter 34:
Necessary Evil

Pacing the hardwood floor of Aubrey's pristine kitchen, Chloe glanced outside the kitchen door for the nth time that afternoon.

Doning a big sun hat, an apron over clean clothes, gloves and trusty garden boots, Beca has been outside for merely half an hour, tending to Aubrey's forgotten garden,  pulling out weeds and undesirable plants.

And since half an hour ago, Chloe has been pacing that particular spot with the intent of confronting Beca and their... Her predicament. But didn't even move an inch closer to the kitchen doors and out to the gardens.

Unbeknownst to Chloe, Beca had noticed not so long ago that she was being watched, hiding her face behind the giant hat, she smirked knowingly.

She knew why Chloe wanted to talk to her, but she had already thought it through. Jacob Mcfuckballs can go fuck right off because she's not about to let go of Chloe now that she's got her.

She just... She just needs to work on some issues of her own. Insecurities, inner demons and all that jazz.

While inside, Chloe was still pacing, Aubrey had been sitting on the couch, Sophie beside her, head against her arm as they watched the older redhead walk back and forth while muttering under her breath.

"How long do you think it'll be before your mom decides she'll go out and talk to Beca like a big girl?" Aubrey teased Sophie, voice soft to avoid catching Chloe's attention.

"I bet ten bucks she's gonna huff and puff, then go and talk to Beca." The small girl proudly smiled up at Aubrey who looked at her amused.

"I'll blame Beca for teaching you how to gamble." Aubrey reached up and messed Sophie's hair which was not in its usual tied-up state,"I'll take that bet, Soph, she'll chicken out." She turned back to watch Chloe only to see her kitchen door swing close after the redhead's exit.

Mouth agape, she can feel the victorious smirk on Sophie's face before grumbling and reaching for ten bucks in her back pocket.

"This is disappointing, Auntie Bree." The little girl 'tsked' and shook her head, hand outstretched to receive the money.

"Whatever." The blonde huffed and slumped against the couch.

Beca heard rather than saw the kitchen door open and close, felt the very familiar Chloe Beale footsteps on the ground rather than heard it.

She smiled, but didn't turn around to look up at her lover, trying her hardest not to giggle at the cute huff Chloe exhaled for being ignored.

"What can I do for you, Chloe?"Beca's tone of voice was amused, which made Chloe fume a bit for the subject of Beca's internal jokes.

"I've filed for divorce before I even went and looked for you." There was no point beating around the bush, Chloe said to herself as she combed a hand through her hair,"My lawyer had been going to his house every week, just so he could sign the fucking papers but he refuses..."

Beca stopped shovelling the wet patch of dirt and stood up, she didn't face the redhead and instead, walked towards Aubrey's peach tree and took a machete, making herself a graft.
