Aurora Devin's Pov

Beep.
Beep.
Beep—

This is one sound you don't want to wake up to in the morning. It signals that you have to leave the comfort of your bed and face the reality of the day ahead.

Oh my God! I have so much to do today. I need to get out of bed now, even though I'm tempted to sleep in. I have two interviews today at two different law firms: one at 10 AM and the other at 1 PM. I also need to go grocery shopping later since I’m the one cooking dinner. Oh, I almost forgot my morning prayer.

I knelt at my bedside and prayed. After that, I headed to the bathroom for a shower. I made sure to wash myself and my hair thoroughly because I need to smell pleasant and look good for my interviews. I'm sure the law firms want more than just an intelligent lawyer; they want one who looks good too. I quickly brushed my long, thick, curly brownish-black hair, letting it air dry, and applied mascara to my long lashes even though sometimes I think it's unnecessary since my lashes are already full.

I searched for my lipstick in my makeup bag and whispered, "Found you!" I applied a light brown MAC lipstick and scanned myself in the mirror. Wow! I look good. I never knew I could apply makeup so quickly and look perfect.

Now, to pick an outfit. I dashed to my closet in my towel and chose a classy, decent outfit suitable for a lawyer: a fitted black dress that highlighted my curves without being too revealing, paired with a black belt and heels. I spritzed on some perfume; the scent was lovely. Then I grabbed my car keys, purse, and phone and rushed downstairs.

****************************
I found my mom in the kitchen preparing breakfast, while my younger brother, Cory, already dressed for school, was munching on cereal. Despite having a housekeeper, my mom and I prefer to cook for ourselves when we’re not too busy.

"Good morning, Mom," I said, kissing her cheek.

"Good morning, my darling. Won't you have breakfast first before going out?" she asked with a concerned look.

I knew she would say that. "Mom, I'm already running late for my interviews, and I need to drop Cory off at school first. It's already 8:30 AM! The first interview starts at 10 AM, and I promise to have breakfast tomorrow."

"Alright, Aurora, but make sure you eat something later."

"Okay, I will, Mom. Cory, let’s go! Bye, Mom!" I rushed out to the car with Cory.

*********************************
I arrived at Cory's school by 9:30 AM after a bit of traffic. Cory jumped out of the car and dashed inside. "Bye, Cory! Have an amazing day at school!" I shouted after him. I checked the time on my wristwatch. Wow! I’m late for my interview.

******************************
I parked my car in the crowded lot and quickly fixed my dress. Looking at my watch, I panicked—oh my God! I’m five minutes late for my interview. I walked briskly to the entrance.

At the reception, I asked the receptionist, "Could you please direct me to the interview room for new lawyers at Borgia & Borgia Chambers?" I smiled kindly.

"Yes, go to the right, take the elevator to the 47th floor, go straight, and turn left," she replied with a smile.

"Thank you!" I said, hurrying to the elevator. It reached the 47th floor quickly, and I followed the directions.

I waited in the waiting room with other lawyers, all of us anticipating our turn. I was the last one called. My heart raced.

I knocked on the door and heard voices saying, "Come in!" I opened the door and stepped into a large conference room with about twelve lawyers seated at a long table. An elderly man sat at the center, flanked by a younger, handsome man who looked somewhat like him.

One of the lawyers gestured for me to sit. The man at the center began asking me questions, and once I finished, he said they would get back to me.

"You may leave now, Miss Aurora Devin," he said firmly.

"Okay, thank you, sir," I replied, standing up and heading for the door.

Thank God that’s over—one interview down, one more to go. I checked my watch; it was noon. I made my way back to the car, smiling at the receptionist on my way out.

********************************
I arrived at my second interview right on time, relieved not to rush this time. I asked the receptionist for directions to the interview room. When I entered, there were far fewer candidates than at Borgia & Borgia.

The interview went well, similar to the first one. I checked the time—it was 3:30 PM. I needed to pick up Cory from school, and by the time I drove there, it would be around 4:30 PM.

*****************************
After picking up Cory, I drove to the grocery store. With his help carrying items to the car, we finished shopping quickly. We got home around 5:30 PM.

"Cory, please help me carry some of the groceries inside before you go in."

"Okay, sis," Cory said, grabbing some bags.

I brought the remaining items into the kitchen and asked our housekeeper, Mary, to set things up for me. "Mary, I’m cooking dinner tonight. Please wash the vegetables and keep them for me. Dad really likes veggies in his food."

"Are my mom and dad back from work yet?"

"Not yet, Miss Aurora," she replied calmly.

"Okay, Mary, please do as I said. I’ll be down soon." Mary was like an aunt to us; she had been our housekeeper since we were little and was always understanding and caring.

*******************************
Once in my room, I quickly changed out of my dress and wrapped myself in a towel. I used facial wipes to remove my makeup before heading for a shower. The water rushed down, and I faced the shower, feeling the warmth soothe my skin. The face of the handsome lawyer from my first interview flashed in my mind. Why do I keep thinking about him? Maybe I'm just stressed from the day's activities.

Oh no! I have to hurry and prepare dinner before Mom and Dad get home! I washed off the soap and, after fifteen minutes, stepped out of the shower. I dried off, applied a little cream since it was evening, spritzed some body spray, then chose a comfortable outfit before heading downstairs to join Mary in the kitchen.
