Aurora Devin's Pov
EEEUUUAAAAHHHHHHH-AAAAAAHHHHmmm,..I yawned as I stretched, breathing in the cool, refreshing air from the AC. The softness of the pillow and the smooth duvet against my skin made me feel like I had been sleeping on a cloud. *That was the most pleasant dream ever,* I thought, feeling utterly relaxed.
But then, I heard a slight creak—the sound of a door closing. My heart jumped. "Oh my God! The meeting... no, no, no!" I muttered anxiously, fumbling for my phone beneath the pillow. When I finally found it and tapped the screen, my heart sank. "9:25 a.m.," I whispered in shock...Mr. Alexander must have left for the meeting by now, and we were supposed to go over legal clauses at 8 a.m...He must be upset with me—I was sure of it.
Maybe he hasn’t left yet,...I thought, grasping at the possibility...At least, let me check and apologize...I steeled myself and slowly opened my room door, tiptoeing toward the living room to see if Mr. Alexander was still there.
***************
To my surprise, when I reached the lounge, I saw a young woman in the kitchen, about to open the fridge. She had deep chestnut, wavy hair and was dressed in a stylish ombré mini-maxi gown with wedge heels. I was confused—who could she be to have such free access to Mr. Alexander’s suite? The possibility of her having an intimate relationship with him crossed my mind, and unexpectedly, I felt a pang of jealousy...Why do I care?.I thought, quickly dismissing the notion. I just wanted to know who she was.
"There you are!" she called out in a mixed British-American accent, as she grabbed a bottle of water and turned around to face me.
I was relieved and surprised when our eyes met. Her eyes, like Mr. Alexander’s, were mesmerizing, though hers were a light gray instead of his deep blue. Without her saying a word, I had a feeling about who she was.
"Oh, hello! My name is Ashley Borgia," she introduced herself, extending her hand. I immediately responded, shaking her soft hand. "I’m Aurora Devin," I said, relieved that she didn’t seem to be who I feared she might be.
"My brother has told me quite a bit about you," she continued, smiling. "Although, to be fair, 'a bit' in my dictionary means a lot—he rarely talks about anyone, especially not a lady. Anyway, he asked me to check on you before heading down to the conference room for the meeting. He mentioned that you were supposed to go over some legal clauses together, but you missed the time."
"Yes, I did. I have to apologize to him for that."
"Don’t worry about it, love," she said, waving her hand dismissively. "My brother understands."
"Are you sure?" I asked, still feeling anxious.
"Absolutely. I’m sure the long trip made you oversleep, so it’s fine. Now, stop stressing and go get ready for the meeting. I also have a pitch to present since I’m head of architecture and interior décor for Cora Group. I can't be late." She glanced at her watch. "It’s already 9:30 a.m."
"Thanks for waiting for me," I said, feeling much better. "I promise I’ll be quick!" With that, I rushed to my room to get ready.
Though this was a short chapter, I promise the next one will be more captivating! Stay tuned, my lovely readers♥️♥️♥️you won’t want to miss what happens at the meeting! Love you all!😘
